The Appeal
During the 1980s Ferrari and Lamborghini fought for space on teenage bedroom walls with their astonishing space age supercars, the Countach and the Testarossa.
Ferrari’s offering evolved the 512 Berlinetta Boxer with a car that was wider, slippier and altogether more outlandish. With its signature side strakes the Testarossa set new standards for performance and street cred from the Maranello concern.
Over time the Testarossa evolved into the 512TR, which from 1992 offered buyers a more aerodynamic design - for improved performance - and a redesigned interior that delivered more comfort. These later cars, of which just 2,261 were built compared to nearly 10,000 Testarossas, are particularly sought after by collectors.
This is one of the last 512TRs built. It was originally registered in Belgium, with renowned Garage Francorchamps, before arriving in the UK. It comes with the sort of history any buyer will welcome - including regular cambelt changes - as well as a very expensive hand-crafted Schedoni tool kit. Equipped with a long MOT and recent service it is classically finished in Rosso with Nero interior and is in superb condition.

The original Testarossa shape proved so distinctive that when Ferrari came to update it they only lightly fettled the interior to make it more aerodynamic. The main changes took place inside where a revised interior offered considerably improved comfort with more supportive and cushioned seats.
This 512TR appears to be one of the last built and is classically finished in Rosso with Nero leather interior. The condition reflects the low miles and the evidently caring owners - there are barely any signs of use outside the car or inside the simple, crisply styled interior. The impression is of a loved and cherished car, one that is also borne out by the maintenance records.
The Mechanics
4,943cc ‘Flat 12’ Ferrari Boxer engine with 4valves per cylinder
Engine delivers 428 HP
5spd manual gearbox with classic Ferrari chromed gate
SES Tubi exhaust system fitted in 2004 at cost of over £2,000
0-60mph in 4.8secs
Cambelts changed in July 2014 around 7,000kms ago
Auxiliary belts replaced in November 2020
Serviced at same time as auxiliary belts were changed
The sweet-revving 5litre engine that propels the 512TR to 60mph in less than 5secs is commonly described as a ‘flat 12’ - namely in Boxer configuration - but is actually marginally canted into a shallow ‘V.’ That minor detail aside, it is surely one of the firm’s greatest motors, delivering a very flat power band that is far more scintillating than the admittedly very sprightly 60mph sprint figure suggests.
Any buyer approaching a car with an engine like this will likely want the reassurance of excellent service history. This car comes with a thick history file, including regularly stamped service book, that shows scheduled as well as preventative maintenance work. The cambelt has been changed regularly, most recently in July 2014 by specialists QV London. It has covered around 7,000 kms since. The last service was in November 2020 when the auxiliary belts were also renewed.
