The Appeal
Sometimes the best comes to those who wait. So it was with Bentley’s Turbo RT, the final and unquestionably the best of the ‘SZ’ saloons. Built to tempt buyers out of Ferraris and Mercedes limousines, the RT, with its Continental T powertrain, was both supercar and super saloon rolled into one.
The RT handled with startling alacrity for a 2,450kg car and, with 400bhp on tap, progressed in a manner that would have excited even those unflustered Bentley Boys. The idea and the car was so good that Bentley never needed to market it. All 252 were sold without any effort. 202 were built in RHD and this 1998 Model Year example is surely one of the best.
Finished in the fetching combination of Black Emerald metallic with a Magnolia interior piped and accented in Bottle Green, this car has covered less than 42,000 miles. The condition, as you might therefore expect, is impressive. The clues to the care of its keepers lie in the high-traffic areas, such as the barely aged driver’s seat bolster. Elsewhere, the bodywork is presented at a high level.
The car received a £8,355 service and general overhaul in 2021. The vendor tells us that there is a complete service history and it will be sold with a fresh 12 months MOT. Both collectable and thoroughly usable, this is a great example of one of the last classically hand-built Bentley saloons.
