1997 Chevrolet Camaro RS 3.8 V6

Highlights

• An extremely low mileage example of the fourth generation of the Camaro
• A pristine car with rare body kit
• Immaculate highly chromed wheels

The Background

The Chevrolet Camaro first saw the light of day back in 1966. It was Chevy’s “pony” car in the mould of, and in competition with, Ford’s iconic Mustang. This fourth generation of Camaro arrived in 1993 originally with a 3.4L V6 with this 3.8L V6 appearing a little later in 1995.

The RS model seen here harks back to the RS, Rally Sport, versions released for the MK1 and MK2 Camaros which is an “enhanced appearance” pack, which, in this case, compromise an eye-catching colour-coded body kit.

The History

Despite the very low, original mileage this is a well-travelled car. Originally built at the Sainte-Therese GM plant in Quebec, Canada and destined to be an officially imported car to Japan where the car covered approximately 11,000 careful miles.

The car was then imported to the UK in 2017 and registered here in 2018. It was 2018 that the current owner, an American car enthusiast and serial owner, acquired the car. The current owner is the first UK owner and there was just one previous owner in Japan.

Since purchase the current owner has done little over 1,000 miles due to lockdown and them owning a number of other American cars and pickups. This pristine, very lightly used Camaro is now ready for its second only UK owner.

The Paperwork

The car comes with a decent amount of paperwork which includes the UK V5 in the name of the current owner. There is also the original Japanese export paperwork, previous MOT’s and DVLA registration paperwork.
Our photographic package features a proportion of the paperwork but given the low mileage and excellent condition of the car there has been no significant expenditure needed on the car.

The Interior

The interior is essentially as new and a very “of the period” grey velour with grey woollen carpets and black dash and cappings. Everything in here presents in excellent condition and everything is said to work as it should.
The rear seats are generous and surprisingly comfortable and practical. The centre section of the rear seats features a Chevrolet emblem with a “30” motif which is believed to commemorate thirty years of the Camaro.

The boot area features a useful carpeted luggage shelf and a deep luggage compartment, making this a practical and useable touring car. This compartment also features a twelve, yes twelve, CD changer.

The Exterior

The exterior presents just as well as you would expect from a car that has been well cared for, seemingly garaged, and having covered such a low mileage. It is pristine. The diamond white paintwork appears to be in immaculate condition with no areas of concern or note being in evidence.

The amazing RS body kit is particularly eye-catching and is bound to set this Camaro apart from others. The kit comprises a large boot spoiler and deep chin spoiler together with side skirts. The chromed road wheels really pop and are also immaculately presented.

The wheels are shod with high quality and, seemingly, lightly used Goodyear Eagle tyres in a 245/40 R18 size.

The Mechanics

This Camaro features the larger 3.8L L36 3800 V6 engine rated at around 205bhp. Power if fed through a four-speed automatic gearbox to the rear wheels.

As you would expect from the mileage of this car the owner reports that it is in mechanically excellent condition and runs very well with a good turn of speed without sacrificing economy.

A new MOT has also just been carried out, with no advisories and has been reported by the tester as being in better condition than some new cars that he has tested - a glowing insight into the health of this car!

The Appeal

It is safe to assume that this is one of the lowest mileage 1997 Camaros available today which pays significant dividends in terms of condition and reliability. Having spent time with this car it is really impossible to highlight anything about it that is less than factory fresh.

The amazing RS body kit is a real differentiator too here. It really helps set this car apart and will really turn the heads of American car enthusiasts everywhere. Don’t miss your opportunity to be only the second UK custodian of this highly individual Camaro.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
