The Appeal
Porsche’s engineers clearly saved the best until last. The 993 was the last of the classic air-cooled cars and it looked much like its forebears, but beneath the iconic profile, virtually everything was new. Notably that included a lightweight, fully-galvanised body, multi-link rear suspension, improved 3.6L M64 flat six and a new six speed manual gearbox.
No wonder that these cars are revered by reviewers and enthusiasts. A further innovation, particularly for lovers of open-topped motoring, was that the Targa model got a proper rethink that finally avoided the aesthetic compromises of its predecessors: this one replicated the coupe profile.
This late 993 offers a very compelling specification. It has the manual cogs, the Targa roof and a set of fetching split rim five spoke alloys. Handsomely finished in black with a contrasting tan leather cabin, it is a highly preserved low mileage car in great order.
The history file shows ongoing servicing and maintenance by its handful of keepers. The long MOT to September 2025 underlines the sense of a well kept car - there are no advisories. It is only for sale due to the vendor having little time to use it, which explains the low recent use.
A good 993 gives its owner one of the greatest sports car experience of recent years. Here is exactly that.
