The Appeal
The enduring appeal of the R129 is well known, thanks to its impeccable build quality, crisp Sacco lines, and high levels of comfort. Then there are the model's special editions, whose elevated values reflect their rarity and added appeal.
The ‘40th Anniversary’ model was created to celebrate four decades. These 5L V8 cars got special Designo Vario Blue/Green paintwork, Orion Grey leather, matching panoramic glass hard tops and AMG ‘Monobloc’ alloys. Just 500 were made available worldwide, all built in early 1998. This car was one of the first built and is believed to be one of only 100 or so released to the UK RHD market.
The car retains its array of special edition features and is in very good condition. The large history file shows regular servicing and maintenance and the MOT usefully runs to August 2026 with no advisories.
This is a chance to acquire a very good R129 SL500 with the added appeal of that special edition specification, something that is sure to make it stand out at shows, in car parks and whenever you choose to move it on.
