The Appeal
The first V12 Rolls-Royce since the 1936 Phantom II and the firm’s first all new model in 30 years, the Silver Seraph, if you’ll allow us the liberty, was a serious new dawn for the Crew marque. It would also be the last saloon built at Crewe.
For all those reasons, the 369 RHD cars built are desirable, particularly so when you consider how they bridge the gap between the traditional old models and the modern, technologically innovative ones. These are properly hand-built Rolls-Royces that are easier to own than what went before and arguably more characterful than those that came after.
This 1998 Fireglow Red Seraph is one of only 39 built in the launch year and is likely amongst the most sparingly used in existence. Its pair of keepers, the current one since 2011, have amassed just 11,000 miles in its 28 years. The condition is as you would expect of such a sparingly used and cherished car. You’ll struggle to find signs of wear inside and out, even on high-traffic areas like the driver’s seat.
Despite the limited use, the car is said to have been regularly serviced and be in fine running order. It was originally UK-registered but is currently on Isle of Man plates, so will require a MOT and DVLA transfer if moving it to the mainland.
The vendor says:
“The vehicle condition reflects the mileage and is as near to new for a vehicle 28 years old as you can get. Drives superbly buyer would not be disappointed.”
Key Information
- Mileage: 11,069 miles indicated (supported by MOT certificates on file up to November 2010 at 10,014 miles; current owner can verify mileage accrued since April 2011)
- Country of registration: Isle of Man (previously DVLA UK)
- Technical inspection status: UK MOT expired
- Technical specs: 325bhp 5,379 cc V12 petrol, four-speed automatic
- Paperwork: Copies of MOT certificates available up to November 2010, handbooks, Isle of Man registration documents, 2 sets of keys, 1 fob
The vendor says:
"There is no service agent on the Isle of Man, and I have only done a few hundred miles in fifteen years. I have changed the oil twice, had a leaking hydraulic pipe replaced, and changed the batteries a couple of times, one very recently. I am prepared to warrant personally the miles I have done in the last fifteen years, as it has sat in my garage most of that time."
