The Appeal
The 8-series was first introduced with this beautiful tourer in 1990. It was the biggest, brashest and amongst the most powerful of the company's lineage, and was intended to push the company's reputation beyond the already stellar 6-series' performance. It boasted two extra cylinders, hugely improved performance and an interior trim that, naturally, came with a much higher price.
It was the peak of 90s Beamer, and some enthusiasts will tell you it's a glory the company hasn't quite achieved since, muddied by EVs and SUVs that can only dream of holding to a candle to this handsome, sharp-featured, 5-metre-long land liner. It was a rival to the V12-engined Jaguar XJS and the Porsche 968 - though sadly released at a difficult time for such a large car, and didn't quite manage the sales it deserved.
Nowadays, they're a classic with a rapidly growing audience - and if you haven't had the chance to drive one in their heyday, this is a great opportunity.
