The E31 8 Series remains one of the most admired grand tourers of its generation, a car that married advanced engineering with a design language that still looks contemporary nearly three decades on. The 840Ci Sport Individual, with its 4.4-litre V8 and M Sport package, is a particularly desirable variant, offering effortless long-distance ability with genuine road presence.
This particular example is believed to be unique. Finished in Imola Red with a bespoke Imola Red and Lotus White BMW Individual Nappa leather interior, it was built in January 1999 and first registered on 2 March 1999. Its original specification included Electronic Damper Control, the M Aerodynamic package, sport seats with electric extending thigh supports, an Individual anthracite headlining and System II alloy wheels.
Acquired in 2004 from Lister Park BMW, it has been in the devoted care of its current owner, a time-served mechanic, for 22 years, during which just 44,850 of its 103,000 miles have been added. Significant mechanical work was carried out at 100,000 miles, and the car has also benefited from chassis enhancements including a limited-slip differential, uprated anti-roll bars and revised front suspension bushes. The bodywork has been Waxoyl-protected since 2004.
