1999 BMW Z3M Roadster (E36)

  • Impressive History File with mountains of paperwork
  • Wonderful Condition and long MOT
  • The private number plate comes with the car
  • Detailed Documentation of Work Completed with Photographs and Explanations

The Appeal

It’s hard to imagine another Z3M in this condition, and this amount of paperwork and information to exist. It truly is remarkable, the amount of detail that the owner/owners have gone into is something to be applauded.
As an example, there is a breakdown of not only what was completed, but a reason for the new parts was also given. For example “the reason why we’re replacing the shift pins is due to the 5th gear lean……” and so on. There is a file of highly detailed information about works completed, which is also comes with a context page for each compartment.
This car has been meticulously maintained – regardless of cost and comes with the private plate.

The History and Paperwork

  • Original and Correctly Registered V5
  • Over 150 Invoices of Parts & Maintenance
  • MOT’d Until April 2023
  • Documented History & Maintenance
A huge amount of invoices and receipts prove that this car has never wanted for anything. Any advisories on previous MOT’s (every mot is in the folder) have been corrected with no expense spared. This shows, with the car passing the most recent MOT with no advisories whatsoever.
It is worth mentioning that, although this car has filled 1 service book with the amount of services its had (around 29), 17 of these have been completed by BMW, and 12 of these have been completed by the current and previous owners (the current owner being an engineer).

The Interior

  • The Interior is in fantastic condition Inside and everything works how it should
  • The Interior is well appointed, with heated seats, Pure Bluetooth Radio and electric roof
  • The boot is also fantastic condition, and the boot floor includes the original and extensive tool kit which is complete, triangle and tyre inflator
  • Both the steering wheel and the gear knob feature interior colour “M-series” branding

You open the door to find the Imola Red and Black factory fitted Nappa interior. The seats are used, but in great condition, with no rips or visible tears.
There are little areas around the interior that suggests that you’re in something special and not just a “normal” Z3, the chrome surrounds on the dashboard instruments are a good example of this. There are numerous optional extras inside the car including Side Airbag and Driver/passenger Airbags, Electric Roof, Air Con, Cruise Control and Preparation for CD Changer.
Everything works faultlessly and you would be forgiven for thinking that this car has done 3,000 miles! It really is a fantastic place to be – and that isn’t even mentioning that outstanding view down the bonnet and the tell-tale bonnet scope harnessing that engine!

The Exterior

  • Panel caps are seemingly perfect
  • Front and rear lights are unmarked and look original
  • Paintwork is outstanding with just a minute, unnoticeable mark (until pointed out) on the bonnet, as well as the odd stone chip that you would expect to see on a car with this mileage
  • Michelin Pilot Sport 4 Tyres all around with lots of tread
  • All alloys look like they have just left the showroom
The deep dish 17 Inch rear alloys are the first thing that you notice on the outstanding spectacle of a car, all of which are in superb condition. A new windscreen was fitted in 2016, new OEM M Badges recently fitted all round.
There are a couple of minute things to mention, there is the odd stone chip and there is a little hole/tear in the hood which is solely because this car has never (intentionally) been out in the rain, so its always down with the lovely leather cover over it, however, because of this it has caused some marking on the roof (which was also replaced in the same factory colour in 2014 and has hidden top stitching and double stitched rear window.

The Mechanics

  • Outstanding condition engine bay
  • Thousands spent to maintain (and enhance) the performance of an already strong, powerful engine.
  • New Clutch, Flywheel, thrust bearing, clutch lever. As well as the gearbox shift pins – all replaced as a preventative measure, not because the car needed it.
  • No Advisories on the last MOT and MOT’d until April 2023
  • Upgraded Vanos System
  • Upgraded SPAX (-15 mm Springs) and Shocks
  • Maintained by Zedshed HQ Team
  • Car is well known in the Z3 Community

All the following work has been carried out in recent years:

The Vanos has been replaced and upgraded by Mr. Vanos and the inlet cam shimmed. All fluids have been replaced (ATF gearbox oil, Race LSD diff oil, high performance race brake fluid and OEM coolant). Engine oil and filter have been changed at or before every 5,000 miles during its life and it was last serviced April of this year.
The viscous fan clutch, thermostat have been replaced as has the main belt and auxiliary belt and idlers and pulleys recently as a maintenance precaution. The suspension has been replaced and upgraded with SPAX (-15mm) springs, Bilstein B8 Sprint gas/oil performance shocks, new shock top mounts front and (OEM) rears (rears with reinforcing plates) new OEM front drop links, OEM front wishbones and Powerflex bushes, including ARB bushes. The rear beam has been removed and the bushes replaced with Powerflex including the diff bush.
The braking system has had new OEM front callipers with the rears being recently overhauled with new pistons and full seal/rubbers kit. Braided brake pipes, 12 groove Black Diamond discs all round with EBC Red Stuff performance pads have been fitted. Clutch line is also a braided hose.

The Air conditioning system has been overhauled with a new condenser and dryer fitted and the system re-gassed by a BMW specialist and is icy cold. We are told that it has also had a new clutch, flywheel, thrust bearing, clutch lever, nipple and guidbo was installed and gearbox shift pins were replaced while the box was out.

Summary

The paperwork is as impressive as the car is. There are newer cars on the road that aren’t as well maintained as this has been throughout its life.

The car felt completely together during the journey to where the car was photographed from where it was garaged. It feels, sounds and looks remarkably fresh.

This car has clearly been loved and adored and it is now waiting for someone to enjoy it as part of their collection. A true future classic, but with modern power that will certainly threaten most sports cars on the road today! A truly remarkable example.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
