NO RESERVE! 1999 Jaguar XJ 3.2 (X308) Sport V8

Highlights

• Low mileage
• Excellent service record
• Nice original condition

BACKGROUND

Launched in 1997 the XJ8 replaced the XJ6 series and initially featured either a 3.2 or 4.0 litre V8 engine. They were luxurious, comfortable, refined, well equipped and well built, with the Sport model receiving stiffer suspension and wider wheels.

Jaguars have always been a class act, and the XJ8 was no exception, using plenty of walnut and leather on the inside and on the outside maintaining that classic Jaguar look.

HISTORY

This 1999 one-owner well cared for, and relatively little used, Jaguar has been a one owner car since new (as registered on V5 with zero former keepers) and has been a London car since birth. It has been used for wafting to and from the office in Central London and the odd occasional trip to France and Spain.

It has been kept in a dry heated stored garage and away from bad weather and always taken out only on sunny days (where possible)

The all-important full Jaguar service history also shows that back in 2000, the original Nikasil lined engine, with the design and manufacturing flaw of plastic parts used within the engine breaking, was replaced with a brand new steel liner engine from Jaguar, which this time used metal parts.

PAPERWORK

The V5 shows no previous keepers, and the car comes with a MOT with over 11 months remaining.

All the original Owner’s Guides and Manuals are present along with the certificate confirming the new engine, the well-stamped Service book, two keys and radio codes.

There are a few other receipts, the key for the locking wheel nuts and there is a full size spare wheel

INTERIOR

There is plenty of luxury and room to be found inside and the Oatmeal leather interior is in lovely original condition with almost zero use in the back seats and the front with zero creasing or wear in the front seats, the bolsters in the front seats are almost near new condition as with many XJ's they can often wear the hardest. The interior leather is in excellent Condition. There’s plenty of wood around you too, all of which is in very nice, clean and original.

The well-equipped and very comfortable cabin has air conditioning, a sunroof, and all the usual XJ Series refinements and, other than some staining of the centre console around the gear shift, a lightly worn leather gear lever and some slight sagging of the headlining in the back, is in great overall condition.

EXTERIOR

Finished in the lovely colour of Sapphire Blue (Jaguar colour code 1806/JHE Sapphire Blue Metallic) the car looks good overall, sitting nice and squarely with no major flaw to be seen. There are a number of pictures that show a whitish residue on some of the paintwork and some of the black trim such as the rubber sills on the door handles and other trims that are rubber and black plastic - this is not to raise any questions but it is residue from the hand polish prior to the photoshoot. This should wash away with a good hand shampoo or a wash.

Get a bit closer and there are some small dents here and there, one on the rear offside panel, the offside front wing and there are also some small scratches and a few badly touched-in patches to be found.

There is no rust to be seen on any of the arches, including the rear window frames - which is a common rust area for these XJ's. The arches have been regularly cleared after every drive to avoid the build up of dirt on the inside of the arches which can cause the rust.

The rear window frames (left and right) have also regularly been Vaseline lined and greased to keep the water and any form of liquid that could potentially cause any rust in that area. It is safe to say that this machine does not have any rust in any of the common areas for the XJ. The rubber seals could do with some freshening up along with various pieces of black trim.

The left rear light lens has a crack and there is also a small dent on the front left wing just at the front by the headlight. The wheels are showing some minor scuffs but are otherwise damage free.

MECHANICS

The full-service history and a look under the bonnet should re-assure most that all is well in that department and there is certainly nothing obvious to make anyone think otherwise.

APPEAL

A Jaguar saloon with a V8 engine and all the style and elegance that comes with it should make this a hard car not to go for.

The full Jaguar service history and overall fine condition and low mileage of this car should certainly help you make that decision.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
