The Appeal

To understand the appeal of a good R129, you just have to hear how this car has been used: the current long-term keeper has enjoyed it for UK summer tours and foreign holidays, a mix of long and short journeys for which these powerful, comfortable and handsome cars are perfectly suited.

Finished in smart Azurite Blue with a rare Saffron leather interior, this SL320 is the desirable later facelift car with the revised 225bhp V6 engine. The current keeper acquired the car in 2012 as the cornerstone of a small collection. It has been properly cherished ever since, including garage storage in a dehumidified Carcoon.

The servicing and maintenance show a similarly fastidious approach. It has been regularly serviced and received ongoing improvement such as new water pump, new folding hood, replacement power steering pump and new front discs. The calipers have been refurbished too. It is a sign of the vendor’s approach that this car has only ever been fitted with quality Michelin Pilot Sport tyres throughout his tenure.

This is a very well kept example of these popular cars and naturally it comes to market with a long, advisory-free MOT. It is all set for some summer drop-top motoring, whether on these shores or much further afield.

The last of the "proper" Mercedes, the build quality is remarkable.

“During my ownership, I have focused on preventative maintenance and have done anything that needed doing to keep it in good condition, including having a new hood fitted, replacing the a/c compressor, water pump, power steering pump, front discs and refurbished callipers. Rocker cover gaskets were replace last year, as was what is believed to be the original battery! Just passed MOT with no advisories.”
