The Alpina B10 V8 occupies a unique position in the pantheon of fast E39-generation BMWs. Where the M5 pursued outright performance, Alpina's hand-finished alternative offered a more refined grand-touring character, pairing its 4.6-litre V8 with the signature Switchtronic semi-automatic gearbox and bespoke chassis tuning. Produced in strictly limited numbers at Alpina's Buchloe facility, the B10 V8 has always been a rare sight on British roads, and survivors in well-maintained condition are becoming increasingly difficult to source.
