The Appeal
The Porsche-flavoured RS2 set the template, but it was the 375bhp Cosworth-fettled B5 RS4 that perfected the idea of a brain-numbingly quick dog wagon, one with the load-lugging, sober and sensible-shoed capabilities of a Volvo but with the horizon-grabbing performance of a Lamborghini.
With all that said, it is perhaps no surprise that most B5s have been driven into the ground. Not this one, thankfully. It is a fantastically-preserved 2000 car that is pleasingly factory standard and fresh from an extensive recommissioning process of marque specialists King of the Road.
The vendor acquired the car in 2015 and tells us that it is one of four to leave the factory painted in special-order Ebony Black. On this car, the paint extends to the wing mirrors and roof bars, which are of course usually silver. It is all very well kept, as is the all black Recaro interior with its carbon fibre trim fillets. Unusually for an Audi of this era, the high end sound system is still in full working order.
If you need more reasons to buy, then the history file provides then. It is extensive and includes a stamped service book with a run of Audi main dealer stamps. The last stamped service was at 77,100 miles in 2014 by Bristol Audi, after which the vendor bought the car and put it into dry storage. It was recommissioned in late 2025 by King of the Road, with a long list of work that included a service, cambelt and water pump, new tyres, fluids refresh and attention to the brakes and suspension. The current MOT is advisory-free and runs to November 2026.
The B5 RS4 is one of the greatest modern classics - hugely entertaining yet thoroughly usable. This rare survivor is one of the best we’ve seen in a long, long while.
The vendor says:
“The car is ready to go with no work required. There are no known issues after the full re-commission. No expense spared on oils and parts, using the correct manufacturer specifications and parts where available.”
