The Appeal

The Mondeo was a revelation, a brand new Ford saloon that handled brilliantly. Inevitably the ST200 high performance version was even better. It is now rightly recognised as one of the greatest Fast Fords ever built.

The ST200 was powered by the 201bhp 2.5litre V6. Beneath the subtle body kit was a carefully fettled chassis and suspension. No wonder this is the only car that Clarkson, Hammond and May all agree that they love.

Interest in these cars, like all high performance Fords, is growing fast. For aficionados, the one to have is the final, run-out Limited Edition which added special trim to an already compelling brew. Just 320 of these cars were sold in Europe, just 300 for the UK market, all of them saloons with the stiffer shell.

This is car number 155, a factory-correct LE that has recently been extensively recommissioned after storage. The work ran to thousands of pounds and included a new clutch - enthusiasts will know that this alone is not an easy job. It retains all of its LE-specific trim and comes with full service history and long, advisory-free MOT.

Whether you choose to use it sparingly for your collection or simply enjoy one of the finest-handling FWD saloons of the 90s, this is a great example of a brilliant car.
