2000 Porsche Boxster S 3.2 (986)

Highlights

  • 258hp 3.2 litre S
  • Six speed manual gearbox
  • Less than 42,000 miles
  • Just two owners from same family

The Appeal

Registered in 2000 by an Independent Dealer this S model was bought by its first private owner Mr H with delivery mileage 2 weeks after it was registered. He kept the car until 2010 when he sold it to Mr J, his Father-in-law who had always admired the Porsche.

Now having owned and enjoyed it for 13 years he has decided to sell as he is struggling to get in and out with the roof up, and subsequently he hasn’t been able to enjoy it as much as he would have liked in the past couple of years.

Originally ordered as 3.2 litre S model, with the six speed manual gearbox it was the top of the range model at the time.  With exclusive Boxster Red leather interior and Arctic Silver Metallic paint it remains a low mileage, low owner example of the original 986 model Boxster.

With its proper mid- engine layout it was recognised as the best handling Porsche at the time, and with 258hp the S model is acknowledged as the most entertaining and exciting Boxster to drive.

The Interior

  • Boxster Red leather interior
  • Good leather with minimal wear
The interior of the Boxster is exactly what you would expect in a car that has covered less than 42,000 miles, just a little dusty.  The wear on the seats and carpets is minimal, especially the passenger seat which appears barely been used.

There are a couple of scratches on the backrest side bolster of the driver’s seat which should be an easy fix.  Looking around the dash area everything appears to be functioning correctly, but again it would benefit from some cleaning.

It appears the radio controls have suffered badly from “sticky button syndrome”, so new volume and tuning knobs would be a sensible investment!

The carpets show minimal wear and are undamaged, protected by Porsche mats. Overall we think after a good valet the interior would look so much better as the Boxster has obviously spent some time parked in a garage gaining a few cobwebs.

The Exterior

  • Arctic Silver Metallic paint
  • Hood fits well and stows correctly
The Silver exterior is in pretty good condition, with minor marks here and there.  Most would clean off with some polish and effort, but there are a couple of issues to note. There is a scrape low down on the driver’s side bumper front corner, and another around the rear edge of the wheel arch on the passenger side rear.  The other marks are what you’d expect on a 22 year old car and don’t detract from the appearance.

We opened and closed the hood and it fits well with a clear and undamaged rear window, and seals to the side glass nicely when up.  It folds well and stows neatly behind the seat.

The wheels are 17 inch five spoke Porsche 986 alloys, with the performance discs with red callipers that indicate an S model. All the wheels are free of major curb damage but have suffered somewhat through age with some minor blistering on all four wheels. All the tyres are in excellent condition; a smart matching set of Continental Sport Contact 2 with only light wear.

As with the interior the Silver paint could be greatly improved with a little effort.  An afternoon spent in the company of a bottle of quality polish and a couple of cloths would yield satisfying results!

The Mechanics

  • Owned for the past 12 years and used occasionally
  • Driven just two miles since MoT
Having been driven just two miles since it passed its MoT test with no advisories in April this year we are happy to report the Boxster appears to be in good health.  It started easily when we visited, and moved around during the photos with no odd noises and a steady burble from the exhaust.

The seller has enjoyed his time with the Boxster and will be sorry to see it go. He says it is a pleasure to drive, handling well and with plenty of power.

Summary

When shopping for a sports car it’s always sensible to go for the top of the range model, the most desirable one with the biggest engine, a driver’s gearbox, and a lovely colour combination. This is what we have on offer here. Barely used in the past few years and with very low mileage, it appears to be in good condition and would be easily improved with a good valet and a little titillation. In Porsche Boxster circles the 3.2 S model is definitely the one to have and here is one that has barely been used!

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
