THE APPEAL

Built by Land Rover Special Vehicles, the Range Rover P38a Holland & Holland was a collaboration with the premium London-based gunmaker and it used the company’s own colours prominently upon the vehicle, with unique Tintern Green Metallic paintwork and wooden interior inlays with the same grain and matt finish as the H&H gunstocks.

Perceived with country life at its core, the Holland & Holland was the ultimate definition of Range Rover luxury. It was a massively expensive vehicle when new and was also produced in extremely limited numbers. A total of just 400 were sold worldwide, of which only a quarter went to UK customers, making this right-hand-drive example a very rare thing indeed - even more so as it was one of only 20 to be equipped with the rear entertainment system. And while a VHS player maybe completely obsolete these days, it's also a defining feature of this particularly rare and unusual Range Rover.

A sought-after variant, this one’s bound to appeal to P38a collectors.

THE HISTORY AND PAPERWORK

  • UK V5C
  • Well-documented maintenance and history file
  • New MOT
  • Full service history

The vendor specialises in the sale of unusual modern classic Range Rovers and he bought this one to recommission after a lay-up of several years, as he knows it to be one of the ultimate P38a special editions. Prior to him purchasing it, it had been parked up in dry storage for a while, so he's been careful to go through the car fully before offering it back to the market.

The Range Rover has its original book pack and a comprehensive service history. It will be sold with a new MOT certificate and it has a UK V5C.

THE INTERIOR

  • Wooden trim to match Holland & Holland gun stocks
  • Saddle Tan leather with brown piping
  • Integrated rear seat entertainment system with VHS
  • New headlining

The Holland & Holland is one of the most luxurious Range Rover special editions ever made and comes with a number of features unique to the model, including its saddle tan leather with exclusive brown piping and the matt-effect woud interior inlays, which match the stocks of Holland & Holland guns.

In addition, the carpet mats are unique to the model and it is fitted with a factory sat nav system. This is one of a handful of Holland & Holland variants that also came with a rear entertainment system, comprising of screens in the back headrests and an integrated VHS video player, which is an extremely cool and wonderfully retro feature.

Everything is in fine order and works correctly, while the car has just been given a completely new headlining installed by a specialist trimmer local to the vendor.

It also has some interesting features unique to the model, including poles to turn the rear boot floor into a pull-out table and a waterproof cover in order to keep it dry.

THE EXTERIOR

  • Unique Tintern Green
  • Matching alloys
  • Superbly presented with no faults

The Holland & Holland looks magnificent in its Tintern Green Metallic colour scheme - a shade unique to the model and which looks absolutely fantastic, especially with its colour-coded alloy wheels.

The panels are all original and the body is free of any damage, the only rectification work carried out by the vendor being to repaint both front and rear bumpers as these were slightly scuffed on their corners.

The chassis, sills and inner rear door shuts are in fine order, as is the lower tailgate - all areas that Range Rover aficionados will want to check out.

 THE MECHANICS

  • 4.6-litre V8
  • Recently serviced
  • Automatic dual-range transmission
  • New rear calipers and discs with new brake pads all around
  • Coolant system overhaul including a new radiator and thermostat

The P38a had been standing for a while before the vendor acquired it so the first job was to ensure that mechanically it was as good as it could be, with a full service and also a coolant system overhaul with a thorough flush.

The engine – the flagship 4.6 V8 – had its oil flushed and replaced and the front brake discs were renewed, while it was also fitted with a replacement rear brake calliper.

A recent MOT shows it's in decent, roadworthy condition and the car is sold with no known running problems. The vendor reports that it’s a really good example to drive.

SUMMARY

Range Rover P38as are really starting to gather traction in the classic market at the moment, not least because original Range Rover Classics are becoming unobtainable for many buyers.

And in P38a terms, this one is the ultimate. It's the highest specification engine, it has an incredible amount of luxurious standard equipment and it's also extremely rare. This is a genuine collectors’ item and one to hold onto as a future investment, as well as a truly luxurious semi-modern classic ready to enjoy right now.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
