The Appeal
When it comes to conveying wealth, power and an absolute disdain for subtlety, few cars do it better than a Bentley Arnage. This one’s a 2001 model, back when Volkswagen was still getting its boots under the table, and the big 6.75-litre V8 under the bonnet was busy turbocharging its way through bank accounts across Chelsea and Mayfair. It’s finished in a properly imposing shade of Beluga Black, with cream leather, blue piping and enough walnut to make a furniture maker sweat.
There are three former keepers, a current mileage of just under 55,000, and everything seems present and correct. The interior, remarkably, has resisted the urge to explode into a sea of cracked veneer and sagging leather. The underside’s a bit dirty, but largely rust-free. The MOTs support the low mileage, and there’s a reasonable folder of invoices and certificates that suggest someone’s been keeping the lights on at their local garage. In all, it’s a fine slice of turn-of-the-century British luxury – enormous, slightly mad, and absolutely glorious.

The Condition
There’s a surprising amount of polish left on this old warhorse. The black paintwork still gleams, the wheels look sharp, and the body doesn’t appear to be suffering the usual flaking clearcoat or bubbling arches you often find on these. The interior’s lovely – cream leather in really good order, wood trim that still shines, and no obvious electrical mishaps. The underside’s what you’d expect from a 24-year-old Bentley: a bit mucky but generally sound, with no terrifying rust visible in the photos. Engine bay is tidy, with no signs of abuse.
