2001 BMW Z3 Roadster 2.2i

Highlights

• Low mileage at only 57000 genuine miles from new
• The popular facelift, widebody Z3
• A great driver’s car with the 6-cylinder engine, five speed gearbox combination
• Full-service history, recent service, and fresh MOT

The Background

The BMW Z3 was introduced in 1995 predominantly using the mechanicals and platform from the E36 3 Series. Very much the brain-child of BMW North America, the Z3 became the first BMW model to be produced exclusively outside Germany for its entire production run, manufacture being undertaken by the Spartanburg manufacturing plant in South Carolina.

This car is from the LCI “facelift” production run which started in 1999. This facelift ushered in a host of sought-after enhancements, not least replacement of the 2L four-cylinder engine with the 2.2L six-cylinder M54 engine as found in this car.

The History

This very well presented Z3 has been very well looked after during its life with a full stamped service history and a host of recent maintenance work having been undertaken. This includes a service at around 55,000 miles, new 225/50 tyres all round and the fitment of polyurethane suspension bushes.

The vendor has advised that this car was subject to an insurance claim having been stolen and then recovered undamaged, however it does show on HPI as insurance cat N (Non structural damage). Bidders are advised to carry out their own pre purchase checks prior to bidding.

The Paperwork

The car comes with the original book pack and original service book and a print out of MOT history.
The all-important service book shows a full BMW dealer or independent specialist service history with the last entry being in 2020 at 55,271 miles – around 2,000 miles ago. This service included an oil change and new spark plugs.

The Interior

The interior appears to present very well indeed. The black leather seats and black carpets appear to have been very well cared for with no rips, tears or areas of concern noted or reported.
The interior is nicely specified too with optional heated seats – ideal for year-round roof down motoring - plus electric windows and mirrors, remote central locking and the original Blaupunkt stereo. The latter is fitted with an auxiliary lead for music player / phone connection for hands free phone use.

The Exterior

The Titan Silver metallic paintwork appears to be in great, original condition with no obvious dents or dings in evidence. The owner reports very minor scuffs to the left-hand rear bumper and the right hand front bumper. These can just be seen in our photographic package underlining how minor these are.

The black, triple insulated hood presents in very good condition with no apparent marks, rips or tears.  The rear window is clear and uncracked with no significant fogging or crazing.

The original 16 inch five spoke BMW alloys appear free from any significant dents, scrapes or kerb rash. There are new 225/50 tyres fitted all round.

The Mechanics

The car is reported to run very well indeed as you would expect from such a well maintained and low mileage example. The combination of torquey 6-cylinder M54 engine, rated at 168 bhp, coupled with the slick Getrag 250, 5 speed gearbox gives the 2.2 a winning combination of performance and economy.

You can see from the under-bonnet presentation of this car that it has been well cared for and well maintained during its life and the current owner reports that all mechanical systems work as you would expect from a low mileage BMW.

The Appeal

The Z3’s stock is definitely on the rise. They offer a winning combination of style, power, specification, and value for money for those in the know. This particular car is a great entry point to the world of useable modern classics too.

The sweet-spot of 6 cylinder engine and five speed manual gearbox make this an accomplished and enjoyable driver’s car. The low mileage, great service history and clean original condition of this example make it one of those rare sports car purchases that can satisfy both heart and head.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
