The Appeal
The R129 was the last of the truly ‘over-engineered’ Mercedes-Benz cars. Handsomely styled and timelessly elegant, it’s a very practical grand tourer that offers all weather ability and genuine luxury.
Here we have a beautifully preserved and maintained example, presented in a very fine specification. Complete with the removable panoramic hardtop, excellent service record and verified low mileage, we think this must be one of the nicest examples on the market today.
The History and Paperwork
- First registered in March 2001, this is a late model R129 from the end phase of production
- 7 owners from new

The Interior
- Cream leather upholstery with secondary beige leather, in excellent condition with minimal evidence of wear for the age and mileage of the vehicle
- Cream carpets throughout are in good condition, with genuine Mercedes rubber overmats in the front
- Carpet in the boot has some minor staining and a few marks, but nothing significant
- 3-memory electrically adjustable, heated seats
- Electrically operated roof, rollover hoop, windows and door mirrors
- Air conditioning
- All of the instruments and driving controls present very well, although the vendor says that the trip meter is a little faint
- Boot contains a spare wheel, the original jack and toolkit, and a 6CD changer
- The vendor tells us that everything operates as it should, with no issues they are aware of
The Exterior
- ‘Two-Tone’ Blue paintwork appears to be in superb condition for its age, with only minor marks and blemishes and a few stone chips
- The vendor is including a custom car cover worth £295 in the sale
- Dark blue fabric roof looks to be in very good order, with no UV damage evident, and no significant damage - there is just a small hole to the near-side of the rear clear plastic panel
- Colour-coded hardtop roof presents very well, with the large panoramic glass panel appearing to be undamaged
- Also included is a removable, genuine Mercedes-Benz wind deflector
- Smart 18” AMG 5-spoke alloy wheels look to have an excellent finish, with no signs of kerb damage we could see
- The alloys are shod in matching Continental SportContact2 tyres that look to be in very good order with healthy tread levels
- The underside of the vehicle looks lovely and clean, with no signs of damage or corrosion we could discern
