Background

When thinking of iconic sports cars, there are few cars that come to the forefront of one’s mind more so than the Porsche 911. The beautiful flowing lines, packaged with famed performance, dynamics and practicality, the 911 is the go to all rounder performance piece.
The 996 variant, produced from 1997 to 2006, was something of a revolutionary 911, still keeping the trademark rear engine layout, yet, due to performance limitations and increasing emissions regulations, a 3.4 litre flat 6 water cooled engine was thrown into the mix as opposed to the air cooled motors the car had been installed with up until this point.
The 996 is quickly becoming recognised as one of the finest 911 variants, becoming an incredibly sought after piece among collectors and driving enthusiasts alike.

History

This fine example benefits from an incredibly well documented history, dating all the way back to original purchase in 2001.
Investigation shows the Porsche to have been bought new in June of 2001. After a successful work contract the original owner went to their local Porsche dealership and bought the car, it then remained under this ownership for some twenty years.

Under this ownership it was excellently and regularly maintained by the same specialist workshop, before the car was put up for auction where it was purchased by the current owner last year.
The current owner has continued the pattern of excellent care for the car, having had a host of work done to refresh the vehicle and bring it up to an exquisite standard and they are now looking to move it on to another loving enthusiast.

Paperwork

Being such a well cared for car, the 911 is accompanied by an impressive stack of paperwork, consisting of several invoices and receipts for general servicing and repair work that had been undertaken by a specialist garage, as well as invoices for work undertaken by the current owner to refresh the car. We also have documentation for the current MOT put on the car which is valid until October 2022.
Notably, the history folder also contains the original bill of sale from the Porsche dealership from which the car was purchased back in 2001.
The sheer volume of servicing history that accompanies the car shows that this has been a well loved car which has had no expense spared in order to keep the car in such an excellent condition.
The V5 registration documentation is also present.

The Interior

Draped in sumptuous navy leather, the cabin of the 911 is a rather special place to be and a testament to the outstanding Porsche quality we have all come to know.
The stylish body hugging seats up front are of an excellent standard, wonderful stitching and dark leather that is still rich and full of colour, they appear in incredibly original condition and bare very minimal wear. Yet another sign of the quality to which the car has been upheld.

The smaller seats in the rear of the cabin mirror this great quality and look almost as if they haven’t been sat in in their 21 years on the road.
The leather dashboard with its flowing lines has been well preserved and as such is still in great order, the same can be said for the iconic leather steering wheel and sculpted centre console piece which then fades into an excellent painted piece also in great condition with very minimal wear.

The factory radio and switchgear contained within the aforementioned centre console is clean and is reported to all function correctly. There is also a Parrot bluetooth system installed here.
A piece of artwork in themselves, the door panels, upholstered in a mix of leather and plush carpeting are still factory fresh in appearance. The carpeting, in a lighter contrasting colour to the navy leather, is of a brilliant standard, this standard continues into the carpet in the cabin of the car, which coats the floors, footwells and the centre tunnel as it becomes more pronounced by the rear seating.
Opening the front compartment of the car, we find an excellently upholstered storage compartment, this section houses the cd multi changer fitted as an optional extra upon purchase in 2001 as well as the spare wheel and tool kit.

It should also be noted that the plastic trim piece that covers the roof mechanisms in the centre, which so often goes missing in these cars, is also present.

The Exterior

This 911 is certainly gorgeous from an aesthetic perspective. A subtle silver hue in the form of Porsche’s Meridian silver coats the flowing lines of the car and provides a glorious shine. The paintwork itself is in a great condition, bearing just a few minor marks as to be expected of a car of this age, but still presents excellently.
A party piece of this particular 911, is the removable hard top. Finished in a matching shade of Meridian Silver, the hard top can be removed via the use of a tool that accompanies the car. There is some marking to be seen on the hard top but it does not detract from the look of the car.

Below this is the electronically operated fabric soft top, in a contrasting shade of dark blue, this functions fully and with ease. It also benefits from being re-dyed in the appropriate shade of blue by the current owner.
The car sits on four excellent Porsche alloy wheels which are all in excellent condition. In addition, the trim, badging and lights, along with the glass in the car are all of a great standard. There has also been a new number plate light fitted as requested by the MOT advisory sheet.

The Mechanics

Opening the rear panel, we find ourselves looking at a great example of Porsche’s glorious 3.4 litre six cylinder engine. Thanks, largely due to its continual regular servicing, and it’s incredibly low mileage, the motor fires into life with ease, with an excellent tone being produced courtesy of a straight through performance exhaust fitted at the request of the previous owner.

This upgraded exhaust system means the car can be both subtle and subdued when pottering around, yet at the request of the driver and their right foot, become a beautiful six cylinder symphony.
The car provides an excellent dynamic drive, with the rear mounted engine having plenty of power on tap. The automatic gearbox mated to the engine is in great order and cycles through the gears effortlessly and smoothly.

The suspension provides a comfortable perfectly balanced ride and the braking system, courtesy of a refresh and regular servicing, brings the car to a stop with ease.
From a mechanical standpoint, the car is in brilliant order, the current owner has had a host of work done to the car including a new cv boot, brake pipes and has had the key reprogrammed as well as rectified a rollover warning system light.

The Appeal

For a true sports car and driving enthusiast, the 911 is an excellent choice. That wonderful combination of style, power, with genuine usability, practicality and comfort is unmatched.
996 911s such as this are something of a rarity, a beautiful colour combination with incredibly low mileage, low owners and an excellent service history. This is a truly special opportunity to acquire an excellent example of an outstanding car.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
