The Appeal

By the 1990s, Porsche were in dire straits - and turned to Project 986 for a solution. The brief itself was simple; a small rear-engined sports car, true to Porsche while opening the brand up to a middle market. The result undeniably saved the company - the Boxster was such a hit that Volkswagen invested and, eventually, bought up the legendary German brand outright.

This particular example has been meticulously maintained, with a comprehensive service history and plenty of originality. Always kept undercover by the current owner - who purchased the car in February 2023 - the vehicle has only tracked 500 miles in the past year and is predominantly original.

 

 

History and Paperwork

• Registered in 2001
• 18 service stamps, with the last one at 88,446 in May 2023, which included a gearbox oil service
• 12 of the service stamps are from the main dealer, the rest are from Porsche specialists
• 6 separate brake fluid stamps, with the last one in 2019
• 6 separate long-life check stamps
• Known to the current owner from new and has been well-maintained
• Acquired in February 2023, with less than 500 miles driven in the last year
• V5 shows 2 former registered keepers, but it was effectively a company car for the early years, and the same individual owned it after that until the current owner bought it
• The car has a good history and has been well cared for

The Condition

• Bodywork and underside appear in smart condition for its age
• Some light wear, though this is very age-commensurate
• Minor stone chips/marks present
• Last MOT indicates that rear tyres may need replacing soon
• Upgraded wheels were refinished last year
• Some light corrosion under the car, though it's far from significant
• Internally, the car is nicely kept with no obvious rips or tears
• Light cracking and creasing to the bolsters
• All instruments are clean and legible

• 3.2-litre naturally aspirated flat-six powerplant
• Manual transmission with 6 gears
• Mechanically well-maintained
• The latest MOT noted some corrosion to the brake discs
• Car has not been driven much since the last MOT so these aren't likely to have worn further
