The Appeal
The original X5 was a benchmark for the burgeoning SUV market. It was genuinely agile like a saloon but practical and go-anywhere like a 4x4. Despite its strong sales, today good, well-kept survivors are surprisingly rare and therefore sought-after by enthusiasts.
This 2002 car is exactly that. Finished in rare Oxford Green with beige Montana leather, it has the added advantage of BMW’s revered M62 290bhp 4.4L V8 motor. The handful of keepers have clearly looked after it, keeping the mileage low and the servicing up to date. The vendor reports that it has never missed a service. Perhaps that is not entirely surprising when you consider that the previous keeper was a BMW Sytner staff member.
In recent times Sytner has refurbished the upgraded 19in ‘lobster claw’ alloys and repainted the front and rear bumpers. The vendor acquired it in 2024 and has undertaken a lengthy list of work, This includes cam cover and lower sump gaskets, gearbox service, diff oils changed, heater resistor, instrument cluster pixel repair, thermostat and engine oil change. It comes to market with the added reassurance of a long, advisory-free MOT.
The vendor says:
“A marvellous colour combo that makes this fairly ubiquitous model stand out. Enhanced yet further by its astounding condition. Most X5's of this age have succumb to poor maintenance and careless daily use. This is a survivor and has fallen into enthusiasts' hands time and time again. Ourselves very much included!”
