The Appeal
The W215-chassis CL600, launched 1999, was based on the Mercedes-Benz S-Class chassis, but with an 8 inch shorter wheelbase. Equipped with the very latest in Mercedes tech for the time, the CL600 was right up there with the regular S-Class in terms of being on the leading edge of automotive technology advancements. Benefitting from Active Body Control, an advanced form of active suspension, this CL is designed to stay absolutely flat in the corners and glides right over bumps.
This example is equipped with the 5.8L V12 engine, which also benefits from Mercedes’ cutting-edge technological advances, offering Active Cylinder Control (ACC). This allows the engine to drop down to 6 cylinders on the highway and other situations where not much power is needed, in order to increase fuel economy. This technology allowed the V12 CL600 to achieve more power and better fuel mileage than the smaller engine V8-equipped SL500.
