2003 BMW R 1150 GS Adventure

THE APPEAL

What better feeling than to get out on the road and take yourselves off for a ride on a comfortable, well-equipped, and powerful touring bike. That is what the seller and his wife did, regularly using the bike mainly for touring over to their holiday home in France. So the BMW made perfect sense to quickly make the trip over to France and other European destinations for a holiday without getting caught in traffic.

The bike comes with an excellent service history which BMW dealers have carried out since the seller purchased the bike in 2005, which at that time had covered just a few hundred miles. In addition, genuine BMW side panniers and a rear box have been fitted, making touring life easier with the added storage.

THE HISTORY AND PAPERWORK

  • V5 is present
  • UK Registered 9th May 2003
  • Three keys
  • Excellent service history
  • Upgraded seat (original included)
  • Battery maintenance charger included
  • Tank bags
  • BMW Haynes manual
  • MOT is currently expired but will have a full MOT at the end of the auction
  • Riding gear is included if required

THE CONDITION

  • Original condition
  • Genuine BMW side panniers
  • New front tyre & just 50 miles completed on the rear
  • Single key operation for all of the locks
  • Factory tool kit present
Finished in Silver, the BMW is well presented and shows no apparent signs of any chips or scuffs. Starting at the front, the plastic mudguard is free from scuffs, and just above, the headlights are protected with a Perspex light guard, which is in good order, as is the screen which is also free from any excessive scratches.
The grips have a set of protectors fitted, helping to keep the chill off on a long ride. The switch gear is in good order, with just a minimal amount of wear. The instruments light up as they should, with the odometer showing a reading of 34,719 Miles. Fitted with a large 30-litre capacity fuel tank makes it perfect for mounting the tank bag for storage options.
As mentioned earlier, the seat has been replaced with a Touratech option. The seller preferred this as it was more comfortable than the standard factory seat, which is included. Under the seat houses the factory tool kit. The side panniers and rear box are genuine BMW items which came in at just over £1,000. These have been fitted to match the ignition key, so everything on the BMW can now be used with just one single key.

THE MECHANICS

  • A powerful 1150cc engine
  • Wonderful bike to ride
  • Four-speed plus overdrive
Owned for 17 years, the seller has always ensured the BMW was well maintained, which can be seen from the number of service stamps present and invoices for work carried out. The twin-cylinder powerhouse produces 85hp and starts up as it should with no untoward noises coming from the fantastic 1150 cc engine. With this model being the last reincarnation of this engine, this engine has two spark plugs per cylinder head.

The six-speed gearbox is reported to have a nice change. The last parts fitted to the bike were a new Gel battery, starter motor, fuel filter and fuel pipes with snap connections.
The bike is reported to ride as it should with no issues; the ride is effortless, and you can easily ride the Adventure for several hours without any problems. The front tyre has been replaced and has covered approximately 30 miles, and the rear whilst not new, has a good amount of tread remaining. Twin discs at the front ensure the bike comes to a halt quickly if needed.

SUMMARY

If you are looking for an upgrade to your bike, the BMW R 1150 GS Adventure is a serious contender. This particular one has had just one previous keeper and has only covered 34,719 miles, most of which have been ridden whilst heading over to France.
Complete with side panniers, there is plenty of storage ready for when you take ownership and set off on your own adventure, but where will you be heading? The world is your oyster.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
