The Appeal

It’s hard to think of a better way to get into circuit racing than through the Caterham Academy Series. Firstly, it allows you to compete at some of Europe’s most prestigious circuits including Silverstone and Zandvoort. Secondly, the Super Sevens you drive are some of the best-handling cars of all time. The Caterhams must be road legal in order to enter, so these are cars you can drive to and from the track in if you wish, as well as enjoy them on the road and hone your skills between races.

This factory built 2003 Super Seven is rather exceptional, having covered a mere 4,975 miles from new in the hands of just one owner. It remains in impeccable overall condition with its K-Series engine still MSA sealed. It’s complete with its side impact bars, although not currently fitted, so would be the perfect option for any would-be 2024 Academy drivers currently without a steed. It’s supplied with a year’s MOT so is ready to be used.

The History and Paperwork

  • Built as an Academy racing car by Caterham themselves
  • One owner from new
  • 4,975 miles confirmed by the MOT history
  • The MOT is valid until 13th August 2024 and displays one advisory for a slightly perished tyre
  • V5C present
  • Collection of old MOT certificates
  • We’re assured that it is regularly serviced and race prepared although there’s no accompanying paperwork for this

The Interior

  • Original specified with a lower floor to accommodate taller drivers
  • Seating for two with matching competition seats complete with harnesses
  • Compact Momo sport steering wheel in very good condition
  • Short-throw metal gear selector
  • Standard Caterham dashboard with additional isolator switch
  • Utilises a conventional ignition key
  • Some of the switchgear appears a little faded, although we understand all to be functional
  • No carpeting - as befits a permanently open competition car
  • Full safety cage
  • Fire extinguisher fitted behind the seats

The Exterior

  • Supplied with its original side protection crash bars which are not currently fitted
  • Handsome yellow paint scheme with blue stripes
  • No roof from factory as this would be obstructed by the roll cage
  • Handsome alloy wheels all in very nice condition
  • Straight bodywork free from accident damage or any notable defects
  • No evidence of any structural corrosion
  • We’re informed that some of the paintwork has been refinished, although the scheme remains original
  • The underside presents really well

The Mechanics

  • 1588 cc Rover K-Series engine
  • MSA sealed engine which has never been apart
  • Five-speed manual gearbox
  • The vendor informs us that the car is regularly serviced and is capable of being race prepared by means of  new seat belts, fire extinguisher and check-up
  • Reportedly driving very well indeed, with no known faults
  • Vendor informs us it has all new silicon coolant hoses and stainless steel clips
  • All presents immensely well under the bonnet

Summary

What you’re looking at is more than just a fun track day car, it could be your ticket to the highly competitive Caterham Academy race series. This immensely fine Super Seven with its incredibly low mileage and one owner provenance has great potential and - combined with the fact it’s road legal with a year’s MOT - is the perfect all-rounder sport car.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you\'re able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
