The Appeal
Many people dream of finding a time-capsule classic car or bike, which has been barely used since it rolled off the production line. However, by their nature, vehicles are meant to be used, so a showroom-fresh classic is a truly rare phenomenon. Rare – but not unheard of, as this extraordinary Ducati 999 Biposto testifies.
Having been acquired back in 2003 as a new model, this superbike has covered a scarcely credible 470 miles during the last 22 years. The current owner purchased it in 2017 with just 250 miles on the odometer, since when it has been barely used and SORNed throughout this decade. That’s despite the almost indecent temptation of its screaming 999cc engine, which redlines at 13,000 rpm and propels the bike to 60 mph in barely three seconds.
As you’d expect from a bike which has been so minimally used, every aspect of it appears to be as new. The Anniversary Red paintwork is particularly delightful, retaining original manufacturer stickers and incorporating seats which understandably offer as much comfort as they did when this bike was first manufactured. The tyres also show no signs of use, having been replaced in 2017.
