The Appeal

The 996 was a gamechanger. The firm’s first all-new 911 since the original risked alienating traditionalists with its water-cooled layout, but managed to engage them whilst drawing in a whole new audience.
These cars are popular as daily drivers and weekend indulgences because they are so usable and rewarding. That’s where this one fully delivers because it has the surefooted AWD system, the engaging 6spd manual box and all-weather convertible roof with factory coupe hard top.
It is a desirable post-2002 car with the enlarged and improved 3.6litre 315bhp motor. The great condition extends across that hard top to the smart five-spoke alloy wheels. The thick history file records regular servicing and notably recent IMS bearing replacement. A Porsche Apple Play PCM unit is fitted, which cost £2,000 and the private plate is also included in the sale.
Used and enjoyed by the seller, it is only now available because they wish to switch to upgrade. It stands out as a well maintained and very well specified example of these versatile drivers’ cars.

The Condition

  • The familiar interior is trimmed in soft black leather throughout
  • The condition is very good throughout with Carrera script kick plates
  • The recently fitted Porsche PCD head unit helps give the cabin a more modern feel
  • Finished in the ever-popular Arctic Silver livery this 996 looks amazing
  • The factory hard-top gives it a distinctive look when fitted
  • The original “Turbo Twist” five spoke alloys suit the car extremely well
This high specification car is classically finished in Arctic Silver metallic with black leather interior. A factory hard top usefully adds to the versatility of the black electrically folding soft top. Both are well kept and the roof has a heated, glass rear window.
Smart ‘Turbo Twist’ five spoke alloys present well. They are shod with quality Pirelli Zero tyres all round and the car is fitted with cross-drilled brake discs.
The highly specified cabin incudes electrically adjustable seats with three-stage heated. Carpets and door cards are in a very good original condition. The former are protected by Porsche branded carpet mats and the latter are finished in a combination of carpet and black leather. The dashboard looks in fine fettle and is familiar Porsche fare. The instrument binnacle is furnished with distinctive, white-faced dials. These are dominated by the usual big, centrally placed tachometer which is redlined at a shade over 7,000 rpm. The big, screened Porsche PCM head unit features Apple CarPlay and is a recent addition at a cost of well over £2,000.
The usefully deep front luggage compartment is fully lined in hard-wearing dark grey carpet. The original Porsche CD changer is also housed in here. A space-saver spare wheel is located under the floor and the jack, tool set and warning triangle are also present here.

The Mechanics

  • Favoured 6-speed manual version with the Getrag G96 gearbox
  • Post 2002 model with more powerful 3.6L flat six developing 315bhp
  • The all-important IMS bearing has been recently replaced for full peace of mind
  • Good history file showing regular maintenance and servicing by main dealers and specialists
  • Recent work completed to roof motor to cure an intermittent fault, so the car is fully ready for summer cruising.
Alongside the appealing interior specification, this car’s technical details are equally engaging. As a post-2002 car it is fitted with the larger, more powerful 3.6L boxer engine that nudged power to 315bhp. The appeal is further dialled up by the slick six-speed Getrag manual gearbox and traction-optimising all wheel drive.
The maintenance history reflects the cars of this car’s few keepers, who have also kept the mileage down to attractively low levels. Recent work includes a brake overhaul with some new discs, pads and pipes. The IMS bearing, clutch and seal were replaced at 69,328 miles at a cost of over £2,000. A full air conditioning service was undertaken in August 2022. A full service was undertaken by Porsche specialists at 73,100 miles.
The seller reports that the 996 runs beautifully and starts immediately. It was driven by the previous keeper to the South of France in 2022 including sorties to the Swiss Alps and back up the French/ German border. We are told the car performed faultlessly throughout the journey.
Both engine-bay and underside presentation look reassuringly positive, further pointing to a well-cared for and well-maintained example.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
