The Appeal
There are other quick, compact modern classic estates but none quite do what Mercedes’ brilliant W203 C55 does. Its combination of RWD and torquey 5.4L 370bhp V8 give it a character and soundtrack not matched by its homegrown or overseas rivals. Indications are that 595 estates were built, of which only around 10% were produced in RHD like this 2004 example.
For fans of these excellent load-lugging express cars, it is quite a find. Despatched to Japan by the factory when new, it spent its life on the nation’s salt-free roads to 2025 when it was imported to the UK. On import, it was graded 4B, we are told. The current keeper acquired it a few weeks after arrival. He tells us that it was serviced regularly in Japan, which you can check in the photos, and more recently in the UK on purchase and again in May 2026. We're advised of eight Japanese stamped service entries. It carries UK registration and lengthy MOT to February 2027.
The car appears factory standard, finished in well-kept Obsidian Black with AMG five-spoke alloys and a very tidy black leather interior with Bird's-Eye Maple veneers. We’re told that the extensive array of features all work correctly.
Now only available for sale due to the current keeper’s loss of storage, this is a rare and compelling opportunity to acquire one of AMG's most understated performance estates.
The vendor says:
“Its a true Mercedes AMG, on start-up the V8 is awoken and ready for the journey ahead in style. Being an import it is a very nice example, especially in obsidian black and being an estate. The previous keepers have looked after it and I have too in the last 12 months. I'm sad to see it go but loss of storage has made this decision. Great condition car with 2 keys, all switches work as they should. The metal boot floor trim even has the original blue protection cover intact.”
