The Appeal
The R230-generation SL is widely regarded as one of the finest grand tourers of its era. With its ingenious electrohydraulic folding aluminium hardtop, muscular 302 bhp V8 and smooth, effortless performance, the SL500 offered a compelling blend of open-air motoring and coupé refinement. Two decades on, well-specified examples are attracting increasing attention from enthusiasts who recognise the R230 as a modern classic of real substance.
This 2004 SL500 is a particularly well-equipped example, finished in Cubanite Silver Metallic over black and anthracite leather with burred walnut wood trim. The specification is comprehensive: AMG 18" double-spoke wheels with mixed-width tyres, AMG brake system, Active Body Control suspension, COMAND navigation, Bose premium sound system, bi-xenon headlamps, heated seats and a heated windscreen washer system all feature.
