The AC Cobra is without question one of the most spectacular sports cars ever to have graced this earth.
With its seductive styling and thunderous soundtrack, this icon of the motoring world was a frequent attendee of both race track and the big screen making it an incredibly sought-after from day one.
Low production volume and its high value generated a global replica market and soon the AC Cobra became the most replicated car in history.
This Cobra is a replica produced by the very recognised Pilgrim Motorsports, who have produced and sold over 12,000 Cobra kits in their 60 years of operation.
Considered one of the leading replica manufacturers in Europe, Pilgrim continues to operate to this day, still providing the ability to build and own a tribute to the automotive legend that is the AC Cobra.
Built over the course of a year & registered in 2005

The Cobra kit was purchased in 2004 from Pilgrim Motorsports and over the course of a year, it was assembled by the current enthusiast owner at their home in Dorset and on completion in 2005 the car was registered with the DVLA.
An extensive portfolio of invoices, instructions and notes have been kept for all and anything that was required during the build, including an invoice for the mighty Ford 5L V8 engine that was imported from the states.
Notes from the owner have been included alongside the Pilgrim build instructions which will help with future maintenance and upkeep.
Inside the Cobra, you’re greeted with a gorgeous combination of cream leather and blue detailing.
The choice of cream trim really does compliment the exterior blue adding a dignified element to its otherwise race car design.
The dash layout is entirely down to the builder of the car and in this case, they kept the classic and tasteful central positioning, leaving the wooden steering wheel uncramped and allowing clear visibility of the dials for the driver.
There are a few creases and signs of wear on the leather and glue on a door panel but nothing major that hinders its beauty.
Sat at the helm you really are overwhelmed with the desire to fire her up and drive for hours on end, there’s plenty of room in the boot for a couple of bags plus a picnic basket or the removable duck skin hood.
Overall, a very tidy interior with only the smallest sign of wear.
The Pilgrim Sumo stays true to the AC Cobras' spectacular muscular looks.
Its wide, low stance provides that superior race car allure that attracts attention and desire wherever it roams. The choice of paint, Fords Pacifica Blue, gives this car a unique seduction and certainly shows off the car's curves beautifully.
There are a few blemishes around the car which have been photographed. The majority of these imperfections are very much minor, with the most noticeable being the chrome bumpers which are showing signs of pitting.
Paint-wise, there are a couple of chips and marks where the hood sits, plus a few indentation marks on the rear.
The duck skin hood fits well but is showing signs of wear, particularly at the front. In summary, the car is a real attention magnet and in very good condition but with a little more attention and love it can be sublime.
During our visit, the car was started and driven multiple times to assist the photographer and each time it sprung into action without any hesitation.
The imported Ford V8 sounds immense and is the perfect motor for the Cobra. Having that V8 Ford heart really does add an undeniable attraction to this car, it sounds like a Cobra should, intimidating, powerful, and unforgettable.
It’s also very much a raw race car, with no power steering or onboard computers to control how the car behaves, this car provides that vintage driving vibe and unfiltered enjoyment.
A new alternator and distributor were installed this year, with many other documented upgrades carried out prior including a fresh MOT has been carried out.
This Sumo is a splendid tribute to the iconic AC Cobra. Finished with a superb colour combination it looks simply gorgeous.
The real attraction though is that V8 Engine. Having an American Ford V8 under the bonnet gives this car true appeal, it sounds how a Cobra should and leaves you feeling exhilarated.
It may be a replica, but it still provides that pure unfiltered enjoyment.
