The Appeal
The Porsche 911 Carrera (996.2) represents the final, most refined iteration of the fifth-generation 911. By this stage in production, Porsche had addressed many of the stylistic and mechanical criticisms aimed at the earlier 996.1 models. The most notable visual change was the shift away from the controversial ‘fried-egg’ headlights to the more sculpted units borrowed from the 911 Turbo, giving the car a sharper, more aggressive face that better aligned with the 911's heritage.
Under the rear decklid, the model features the upgraded 3.6-litre water-cooled flat-six engine. This power plant produces 320hp and 273lb-ft of torque, providing a more robust mid-range punch than the original 3.4-litre version. Beyond the power bump, the 996.2 also benefited from a stiffer chassis and a vastly improved interior.
This 2004 Basalt Black Metallic example has been in the hands of its current keeper since 2015, marking over a decade of careful, considered ownership. Reportedly garaged throughout and used only during the summer months, it shows 73,563 miles on the odometer and comes with a strong service history carried out by Porsche dealers and specialists. The last service was carried out in June 2025, the MOT runs through to October 2026, and an inspection for updated IMS and bore scope June 2017 by specialist La Rose.
The vendor informs us that the bodywork presents in very good order with only light scuffs, while the leather interior is said to be in similarly fine fettle. Featuring the five-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission, this 996 appears a well-sorted prospect for its next custodian.
