THE APPEAL

Recognised around the globe, the VW Transporter has become one of the most loved and desired vehicles since their release back in 1949. This 2nd generation T2 Bay Window is up there with the most sought after and no wonder, it's a cult classic, loved and adored by generations especially here in the UK.

This two tone, adventure inspiring wagon was imported from Brazil back in 2004 by Beetles UK Ltd/Danbury Motorcaravans who converted and prepared the vehicle to the current owners specification who have enjoyed and loved every mile covered over the last 18 years but the time has come for time for someone else to enjoy those weekend escapes and sunset getaways.

THE HISTORY AND PAPERWORK

  •  Partial maintenance records
  •  Prior MOT certificates

Since coming into the ownership of the current keeper in 2004 the vehicle was kept maintained on a regular basis, general services and oil changes were carried out as and when required, plus gas treatments and other maintenance as and when. Records of some of this work have been photographed in addition to the Danbury Conversion interior guide, owners guide and original Brazilian Kombi manual. A valid V5c is also present.

THE INTERIOR

  •  Danbury conversion
  •  Fold out bed
  •  Sink and gas hob
  •  Plenty of storage

The overall condition inside of this Type 2 is great, there's very little sign of wear or age anywhere and the conversion looks in good shape. The comfortable front seats are finished in a burgundy coloured leather, both free from blemishes and the same goes for the rear seats, a 3/4 size rock and roll style seat which folds out to be a bed in less than 10 seconds.

The Danbury conversion is your typical small motorhome set up, the main cabinets running down one side of the van providing ample space and storage. Here’s a breakdown of what to expect as part of the ‘Rio’ conversion;

THE EXTERIOR

  •  Showing signs of age
  • Paint faded in areas
  •  Two tone paint scheme
All early generation VW Transporters are attention magnets, from the out of the box factory originals to those that have been customised with various accessories and modifications, all are adored especially here in the UK. This Type 2 is a blend of both worlds, factory styling with a stand out paint job!

The paint has started to fade slightly, especially on the drivers side and there’s also your typical age related blemishes creeping in around the vehicle, most of which have been pictured. Generally, she’s in good usable order and definitely stands out in a crowd with the rose pink paint!

THE MECHANICS

  •  Air cooled 1.6L
  •  MOT until October 2022
During our visit the car was manoeuvred to a more suitable area for the photos, it started easily and changed through a few gears without an issue. This Type 2 features the Air Cooled 1.6L flat four petrol engine, which operates without fault and gives off the usual low pitch burble. The MOT was passed last year with a few advisories which have been pictured, the car has done less than 4 miles since!

Years of use and regular servicing have kept the van in good running order, further treatments like underbody waxoyl have also been carried out with the ambition to keep everything solid and reliable for as long as possible.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
