2004 Volvo S80 2.9 Geartronic

Highlights

  • Extremely low mileage for a Volvo
  • Well maintained and looked after
  • Believed to be one of only two examples left

The Appeal

When the first generation S80 launched in 1998 it was the safest car on the road, having numerous occupancy safety features it is no wonder why people love these cars so dearly. This example has been well cared for throughout its life, being used on rare occasions and ever displayed at car shows. It is believed that this is one of only two S80’s left with the naturally aspirated 2.9l inline-six.

A motorway mile muncher it is extremely comfortable and ready for any task you may want to throw its way.

The History and Paperwork

  • This car started its journey just over 18 years ago, first registered in April of 2004
  • Looking at the service history it lived in Huddersfield from 2004 to around about 2008 where it was serviced annually at Harratts of Huddersfield
  • Upon studying the service book, you can see that it has been cared for properly, with a service pretty much every year regardless of the miles completed
  • Quite a few of the old MOT certificates have been kept neatly in the cars history folder
  • There are a couple of invoices from 2014 & 2015 that evidence the cambelt being changed, with a sticker under the bonnet that proves this further
  • The current owner has had this example since 2020 and they have looked after it well, keeping it totally original and low mileage.
  • Often displayed at shows there is a lovely plaque that describes this car further, with the headline figure being that it was £35,000 when new, dangerously close to a price of a new Range Rover of the day
  • The all-important V5 is present making a change of ownership nice and swift
  • Along with the service book, there are quite a few Volvo original handbooks
  • This is your chance to add to the car's history, whatever you may wish to do this Volvo will do it with class and style

Please note the current private reg plate "E9 PRP" is not included in the sale. The car will be sold with the number plate LL04 YLV.

The Interior

  • Fitted with a rather expensive factory Sat-Nav system
  • A raft of interior safety features
  • Dolby Pro-Logic sound system
The interior of this S80 is the place to be, with leather armchair like seats and lots of noughties tech it is incredibly easy to live with. You can also have the peace of mind that the interior of the S80 is possibly one of the safest places to sit on the roads today.

Due to the car covering so few miles throughout its 18-year life it is no surprise that the interior is in rather wonderful condition, with some incredibly minor wear to the driver’s seat bolster. But the cream leather on all of the seats have no rips or tears to the material. These seats are very comfortable, and you will never get tired of sitting in them.

With this car's price tag, you would be correct in thinking that it comes with some pretty cool tech, and you would be correct. There are a lot of steering wheel controls to make sure you never have to take your eyes off the road when driving. Along with those steering wheel controls comes a sat-nav that rises from the dashboard showing the location of the car accurately, it also comes with two remotes in the armrest that control the functions. The sunroof also works as it should, letting in a lot more natural light into the cabin making it feel ever bigger.

Overall, the interior condition of the rare Volvo could be classed as very good, with little to no signs of wear and tear it is like it was the day it left the factory. You will have one great car to travel in.

The Exterior

  • In rather good visual condition
  • All four alloys are in great condition
  • Sleek and simple Scandinavian design
The first generation of the S80 was probably the best looking, with its uncharacteristic sleek and aerodynamic lines it is a lovely piece of Swedish minimalistic design. Finished in a lovely metallic grey it is a true stunner of a car.

When looking at the paintwork it is probable that it was either kept in a garage or under a cover like the current owner has done, this is because it looks so good. With one minor scuff on the front clip between the headlights and one on the boot, however, the latter is hidden when the boot is closed. To match the brilliant paintwork all of the alloys are in great condition too, the low mileage has probably saved them from any horrible encounters with curbs.

The most intriguing part of the exterior is the little badge on the boot, the one that denotes it as a 2.9l. This makes it incredibly rare in comparison to other S80’s.

This is truly one stunner of a vehicle, with its simple lines and great condition even this humble Volvo can turn a head or two.

The Mechanics

  • Rare 2.9 naturally aspirated engine
  • Smooth automatic gearbox
  • A real cruiser of a car
Volvos are world-renowned for their reliability with one P1800 hitting not just 1 million miles, but 3! So, with this S80 being presented with a smidge over 30,000 miles it is barely run in. With its regular servicing throughout its life, it is no wonder why it feels so comfortable on the road.

The transversely mounted straight-six engine is able to produce 200bhp making it no slouch out on the road, making it more than able to keep up with modern traffic. All of this power is transmitted through a lovely automatic gearbox which switches gears lovely and makes this car nice and easy to live with on a day-to-day basis.

With its low miles and regular servicing, this car should do you well throughout your ownership. A soft and comfortable ride it will be the perfect companion for any trip that you may wish to take it.

Summary

As the handbook says, A Volvo is for life, this Volvo definitely will enhance your life. With the intrinsic rarity of this particular model and low mileage, you are unlikely to find another car like it no matter how long you search.

The current and previous owners have looked after this car well, it is now time to pass the baton onto you. Look after it and it will look after you.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
