The Appeal
With Audi and Mercedes snapping at its super saloon heels, BMW looked to Formula One for a suitable leg up. The result was the screaming S85, a high-revving 5L V10 infused with racing tech. The most advanced, tech-heavy M5 ever built, it was also brutally quick yet with the usual cossetting luxury buyers expected.
These clever cars are well regarded, but with a few known foibles. The trick when buying one is to ensure it’s been looked after and those issues addressed. That is where this very tidy, low-mileage Sapphire Black car scores nicely. The vendor acquired it in 2022 to join his private collection and tells us that he has professionally stored it and used the car sparingly.
Despite that cossetting approach, he has invested £8,000 in improvements. These include replacing the rod bearings, a common S85 issue, plus new solenoid valves and throttle actuators. The car was serviced 6 miles ago in March 2026 when the rear differential was also reconditioned. It remains standard except for an Eventuri induction kit to dial up the drama of that V10. The OEM unit is included with the sale. The car comes with a usefully long and advisory-free MOT valid to February 2027. The M5-related plate is included.
The E60 is the sort of 500bhp super saloon that it seems BMW is unlikely to make again. Here is a fine example to add to your collection.
The vendor says:
“The E60 M5 is world famous and needs little introduction. That V10 F1 engine is surely going to one the most famous engines ever fitted to a road car. The sound that this engine makes is orchestral. With the work already carried out to this car, it should last many years to come and will surely be regarded as a classic for the ages.”
