Carbon trim and 20-inch Sepang alloy wheel upgrade
Rare and sought after model
THE APPEAL
The original Jaguar XK8 is a car that’s rapidly gaining attention in collector and enthusiast circles, a model deservedly regarded as one of the finest GTs of the 1990s and early 2000s.
Far more of a sports car than the XJS it replaced, the V8-powered “X100” coupé or convertible was a return to Jaguar’s pure performance car days, with terrific handling and drop-dead gorgeous looks. It ran from 1996 until late 2005, when it was replaced by the all-new “X150” model.
In terms of quality and performance, the last X100s were the best and the very last the very best.
The X100’s UK swansong came in the form of the 2005 4.2S in either XK8 or XKR format. The models were introduced at the Geneva Motor Show and were similar to the Victory specification sold in the USA, offered in the same four limited edition exterior colours: Copper Black, Frost Blue, Bay Blue and Satin Silver, with four interior colours and two distinct veneer options for the dashboard, creating 18 possible combinations in total.
XK8 models offered elm wood veneer as standard for the interior trim, while XKR cabins were lined with carbon fibre, though elm veneer could be selected as a no-cost option. Carbon fibre was an option for the non-supercharged cars.
In recognition of Jaguar's racing heritage, special badging and accents adorned the new models. Polished door tread plates with chequered flag emblems and leather-edged embossed floor mats lined the footwells. The revised white Jaguar Growler badge on the bonnet also featured new chequered flag accents on the sides of the emblem and the model also came with unique darkened rear light clusters – leading to them being known as the ‘White Badge’ models in enthusiast circles.
This example is one of those cars – a September 2005 normally aspirated 4.2S in gorgeous Copper Black, which is a deep metallic black with bronze highlights. It comes with some highly desirable extras such as 20-inch ‘Sepang’ alloy wheels, the ‘R’-Pack carbon dash veneers and a stealthy black-on-black interior.
It’s a gorgeous example of the ultimate XK8 that represents the X100 generation of the car at its beguiling best, presented in lovely overall condition. This is a lovely car, with the 4.2-litre engine, later (and stronger) six-speed transmission. One of the most collectable XK8s made, as well as being a rare, usable and unusual modern classic.
