THE APPEAL
The C55 arrived in 2005 and signified the return of V8 engines to the AMG name after Mercedes stint with supercharged V6’s. At the time of production the C55 was hailed as the fastest C-Class to leave the factory, with its astonishing performance figures.
In true Mercedes style, the car offered nothing but pure opulence and is (still) the perfect car for crushing motorways or even a B-road. However, its sensitive throttle and oodles of low down torque mean the C55 can be somewhat a handful on the road.
The UK market unfortunately didn’t see much of a need for a family estate with a V8 stuffed into it, which makes the S203 a somewhat rare car.

THE INTERIOR
- Original condition throughout
- Highly specced interior
- Parktronic (PTS) system, front and rear
- Electric memory seats, combined with memory package that includes the steering wheel column
- Electrically heated rear window
- Through loading system
- Electric, tilt slide sunroof, that operates as it should do, with no known issues to be aware of
- Comand DVD APS with navigation
- The CD was not present when we photographed the vehicle but the vendor informs us that the CD will be when the vehicle is sold
- Harman Kardon sound system
- Automatic climate control
- Multi-function steering wheel
- The leather upholstery looks excellent with contrasting Anthracite cloth
- Both the front and rear seats look in good order, with all sets showing minimal wear to either the bolsters or cushions
- Birds Eye Maple wood trim looks spectacular on the inside of the car and is still presenting really well
- The driver's seat is missing the AMG badging, but the badge is present on the passenger side
- Heated front seats on both the driver’s and passenger’s side seats
- Door cards, dashboard and headlining look to be in good order with no significant scuffs or rips
- The carpet looks great with no signs of discolouration, notable wear or damage that we noticed
- All the gauges, switches and electronics within the vehicle are said to be working as they should
- Overall the interior is a fantastic place to be
THE EXTERIOR
- Great overall condition.
- Brilliant Silver Metallic paintwork looks fantastic in the sunlight
- The car is fitted with the AMG styling package that includes a front spoiler and side skirts
- The front of the car is free from imperfections such as stone chips with the lower front valance showing no defects
- The body panels look nice and straight with no signs of damage or corrosion that we noticed
- Brightwork around the car is in excellent condition
- Headlight lenses are clean, bright and free from sun damage, as are the tail light lenses
- Mercedes-Benz branding is present and correct and shows no signs of ageing or pitting apparent
- Paintwork on passenger side door is starting to lift - we're told this is due to a previous cosmetic respray that was not carried out properly
- On the bonnet it appears that the lacquer has lifted
- Stainless steel, AMG branded quad exhaust completes the sporty look
- The alloy wheels are in really good condition, with no obvious signs of damage that we noticed
THE MECHANICS
- Triple-valve M113 5.4 litre V8 engine
- 362bhp is sent to the rear wheels via a five-speed automatic gearbox
- The C55 starts on the key and idles with absolute ease - we noticed no unusual sounds coming from the engine
- Sub five second 0-62 time
- The M113 idles quietly - this quieter idle suits the car well and accentuates the prestige look and feel the vehicle has
- We are told that the automatic transmission behaves as it should, with no unwanted noises or crunching
- The engine bay is presented well and shows no signs of any oil leaks
- Signs of surface corrosion to note around the front of the engine bay
- During the vendor’s time with the car, he tells us he has not had to replace a single part and it has been an absolute dream to run, drive and own
SUMMARY
This particular C55 presents in fine condition for its age and, as far as we are aware, is mechanically sound. It’s not very often that these pop up for sale, and when they do they’re snapped up by collectors and enthusiasts in a heartbeat.
Offering huge amounts of style, comfort and sporting a 5.4 litre V8 engine, there is little more that you could want from what is arguably ‘practical family car’. It’s huge range of comfort options will leave you wanting very little. Couple that with the vast performance and elegant design cues, it can only be described as a wolf in sheep’s clothing.
