The Appeal

There was no obvious reason for the ZT260 and its 75 V8 cousin to exist. Nobody was asking for a Mustang-engined MG or Rover, especially one that required significant re-engineering for a RWD drivetrain. 
And yet we are very glad that the MGR engineers eschewed reason. Because this car is a fitting, V8-engined finale to our mainstream British car industry. For that reason alone the 883 built should be - and are - very sought after. 
The production cars were built to demonstrate MGR’s capabilities to its potential Chinese owners. Each one was heavily reworked over the standard cars - they may look the same, but they drive very differently. Beneath the bonnet is a 4.6L V8 from the contemporary Mustang, pushing out 260bhp via the rear wheels. 
This car was first registered a couple of weeks before the whole MGR house of cards collapsed. It is car 375 of the 883 built, finished in the same Black Pearl of the final V8. Inside, the sombre theme continued with well kept black leather. 
The car has been used and enjoyed by its quarter of keepers and maintained equally well. The engine was replaced at 50,000 miles - the mileage is now 105,000 - and is said to start and run very well. There is a LPG system fitted.
The car comes to market with a long, advisory-free MOT, The ZT260 feels like a sure-fire future classic, albeit one you an properly enjoy as a daily, and we expect this car to be snapped up.

  • No issues reported on MOT or by seller for structure 
  • Recently refurbished factory alloy wheels with smart polished finish 
  • Exterior lights in good order with clear and undamaged headlight lenses 
  • Black leather interior in very good condition with ‘SE’ high end specification 
  • Well preserved cabin with only light wear to usual high traffic areas such as driver’s seat 
  • Aluminium-effect dashboard trim complements the off-white dials and leather
  • Switchgear, headlining and trim all in good order with few signs of age 
  • MG cup holder not working, but all other features are functional
  • Specification includes glass sunroof, working blind, heated and electric seats, and premium audio system
  • Carpets in good order with fitted MG-branded mats as shown 
  • No reported faults with electrics, lighting, switchgear or dials except as noted above
  • No dashboard warning lights advised 

The Mechanics
