2005 Porsche 911 Carrera 2S (997.1)

Highlights

  • 52,892 miles
  • Comprehensive history
  • Good specification
  • Subtle and smart paintwork
  • 3.8-litre flat-six

The Appeal

Many regard the 997 generation as the ultimate evolution of the 911 - offering the perfect balance of modern technology and historic design touches, finished with Porsche’s always fantastic build quality. It’s difficult to argue against this, especially with early, well maintained, low mileage 997s becoming more difficult to find.
Presented in excellent, unmodified condition, this example benefits from a fine service record, excellent specification and below average mileage. If you’ve been on the lookout for an early 997 – or just want a sports coupé that you can genuinely enjoy every day  – then this handsome machine is definitely worthy of your time.

The History and Paperwork

  • First registered in May 2005
  • Early 997.1 model
  • 52,892 miles indicated, verified by service and MOT records
  • Six owners from new, current owner since July 2018
  • Full inspection by Sytner Porsche Centre in Edinburgh, June 2022 – complete with certification
  • Owner’s handbook in original leather folder
  • Comprehensive service history – eleven stamps, all from main dealers or marque specialists
  • The last service was carried out at 52,872 miles in August 2022

The Interior

  • Black leather upholstery
  • Cruise control
  • Air conditioning
  • Electric seat adjustment, windows and door mirrors
  • Heated front seats
  • Double DIN Pioneer CD/radio with Bluetooth, Aux, USB and navigation
  • Genesis four channel amplifier
Finished in smart black leather, the cabin of this 911 is both luxurious and sporting. It’s a very fine place to be, with the leather presenting well, with no significant wear or damage to the seats. There is a little wear evident to the handbrake cover and steering wheel, but nothing more than you'd expect given the age of the car.
Black carpets are complemented nicely with fitted Porsche floor mats, all of which appear to be in fine fettle, with no staining or damage apparent. Much the same is true of the headlining and door cards, which don’t show signs of damage or sagging.
All of the cabin trim, switchgear and instrumentation is present and correct, with the vendor assuring us that everything is in fine working order with no faults to report. There is a little wear showing on some of the buttons and switches, such as the HVAC controls, but it’s nothing that would concern us. Also, some of the cabin plastics wear the odd scuff or blemish, as you would expect.
At the front there is a reasonable 'frunk', perfect for an overnight bag or some shopping. It’s trimmed out in black carpet, which again presents well, and also contains the four-way amplifier.

The Exterior

  • Metallic silver paintwork
  • Electrically operated rear wing
  • Factory 19-inch alloy wheels
The 911 is one of those cars that really suits silver paint, it shows off the proportions and detailing well and complements the car’s subtle, almost under-the-radar aesthetic. Here, it is in very good order, with no notable damage, marks or corrosion we could see. It bears a fine gloss and looks even and well kept.
Similarly, the body is in very good condition, with no corrosion we could discern, even panel gaps, crisp lines and straight panels. The car is quite subtle in its aesthetic, but what external trim and badging there is all shows very well, with no damage in evidence. Front and rear, the light lenses also look to be nice and clear, with no damage to note.
Wheels are the standard ‘S’ 19-inch items. Known in the Porsche community as ‘lobster claws’, they are a handsome wheel and are in good order here, with no sign of lacquer peel or kerb damage. They are shod in a matched set of low profile Michelin tyres.

The Mechanics

  • 3,824cc naturally-aspirated flat-six
  • Tiptronic automatic transmission
  • PASM and PSM
As this is the ‘2S’ model, it benefits from the larger 3.8-litre flat-six engine, which develops a hearty 355hp, all of which is delivered to the rear wheels. The engine bay is in lovely condition, nice and clean with no evidence of leaks or issues that we could discern.
The transmission in this 997 is the Tiptronic system, which allows the driver to enjoy smooth automatic shifts, or take control themselves using the steering wheel mounted switches.
With a fine service history and below average mileage, the drivetrain of this 911 should be good for many years to come yet. In fact, the vendor reports that the car starts, runs and drives just as it should, with no issues to report.

Summary

If you want a sports car that is practical, reliable and can genuinely be used every day, you buy a 911 – it really is that simple. And this is a very fine example of the breed. With low miles, a good history and an attractive specification, there is much to recommend it.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
