The Appeal
If you want a modern water-cooled 911, the car’s popularity means you aren’t stuck for choice. The key is to find a well-specified and well-maintained car. That’s exactly why we like this 2005 997.1 Carrera 4S.
The first keeper ticked the ‘S’ option box, which includes the 3.8L flat six engine, plus the versatile Tiptronic box. It was also specified in popular Slate Grey metallic with full black leather. He then added over £15,000 of options, including Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes - a £5,349 option - and Adaptive Sports Seats. He also added the PCM navigation module, Sport Chrono system and Bose sound.
In the intervening years, it has had just five keepers, with the current one since 2022. The maintenance file shows regular attention, including over £4,600 spent in 2016 on an engine rebuild at 65,000 miles. The car is also fitted with an upgrades IMS bearing. The rebuild, to address common 997 issues of bore score, plus the upgraded bearing, address the two common issues associated with this era of 911 and provide buyer reassurance. Further work includes £3,500 in 2022 on servicing, brake fluid change, four new Pirelli tyres and suspension work. The last service was in July 2026, with a few miles since. The current MOT runs to August 2026 with no advisories.
