The Appeal
The second generation of the Boxter had a remarkably simple brief, in retrospect: do it again. The Boxster has become one of the most essential cars in Porsche's repertoire, thanks to its mid-engined layout and easy-to-handle character, and for generations of enthusiast will no doubt be the perfect introduction to Stuttgart magic - so what did you really need for a successful generation?
Porsche opted to modernise. It was, at first glance, pretty subtle - but diving into the 987 is a rewarding task. The new car came with gently developed styling, a new variable-ratio power steering system, upgraded electricals, and a comfier cabin, all thrown onto a stiffer, tighter-handling chassis. Practically everything was just 'better'.
This particular 2.7-litre example stands out for being a one-owner car from new, having been purchased in December 2005 and cherished by the same keeper since. With full service history and a host of desirable options, it's a simply excellent package, buoyed by a program of recent maintenance to keep it at its best.
