The Appeal

Of all of Chris Bangle’s designs from his time at BMW, the E60 has arguably aged the best. It’s a handsome and well-resolved machine that offers a fine blend of comfort, technology and raw performance.

Here we have a very smartly presented example, an ex-demonstrator that is absolutely loaded with kit and optional extras. Add to that the V8 drivetrain, M Sport package and very low mileage, and what we have here is a true executive express in seldom seen condition and specification.

The History and Paperwork

  • First registered in May 2006
  • M Sport package and £13,000 of documented factory options
  • Initially used as a demonstration vehicle, so the first owner was BMW
  • The second owner had the car until 2019, when the current registered keeper purchased the vehicle
  • 61,935 miles, verified by the MOT history
  • The vendor tells us the car has a service history that is a mix of main dealer and specialist work
  • The history file contains a number of service/maintenance invoices, old MOTs and an RAC Car Passport
  • Complete with the correct owner’s handbooks
  • Current MOT to September 2023

The Interior

  • Black Dakota leather upholstery, presented in fine condition with no notable damage and only very light signs of use
  • Electrically operated sunroof, windows and door mirrors
  • Electric 2-memory front seats with optional heating function
  • Black carpets and BMW grey velour overmats which all appear to be in good order
  • The controls, instruments and trim all look to be in good condition, with nothing missing and no unexpected wear or damage, other than some marking around the start button / key slot
  • Smart wood veneer to dash and doors, with no evidence of cracking or delamination we could see
  • iDrive control centre with optional extended voice control system, BMW Connected Drive Assist, heads-up display, night vision and Bluetooth phone connection
  • Parking sensors and optional active cruise control
  • Optional soft close doors, front dynamic support seat backrest, front ISOFIX points and auto dimming rear view mirror
  • Dual zone automatic climate control
  • Optional ProLogic 7 Hi-Fi with DAB, CD changer, TV function and upgraded “Professional” satellite navigation
  • We’re informed by the vendor that everything works just as it should, with no issues they are aware of

The Exterior

  • Silver Grey Metallic paintwork, in excellent condition with no signs we could see of notable blemishes of damage
  • The bodywork all looks to be straight, clean and presented in very good condition, with no corrosion or damage apparent
  • M Sport package adds a subtle bodykit, which is all present and correct and in fine fettle, along with the optional M rear spoiler
  • All of the external badging, trim, glass and light lenses present well, with no damage we could observe
  • Optional 19” 172M double spoke alloy wheels – three are in excellent condition, while one of the rears has been slightly kerbed
  • The alloys are dressed in fresh Nexen tyres, which have good tread levels and present nicely
  • Optional folding external mirrors
  • Optional Bi-Xenon headlights
  • Optional sun protection glass
  • Underneath the car appears to be in very good condition, with no signs of damage or corrosion that we could see

The Mechanics

  • 4,799cc naturally aspirated V8, offering 367bhp to the rear wheels
  • The engine bay presents well, with no evidence of leaks or damage we could discern
  • 6-speed automatic transmission
  • Optional active steering
  • We’re told that in the last couple of years a new alternator has been fitted and some work has been carried out on the front suspension
  • The vendor assures us that the car drives just as it should, with no leaks, no smoke, no untoward noises, crisp acceleration and smooth gear changes
  • Engines covers were removed for the pictures, included in the sale and will be refitted.

Even today, few cars are as well equipped as this 16 year old executive saloon. Handsome and relatively understated inside and out, it’s presented in very fine condition, with low mileage and a quite staggering specification list.

When new, this was almost £62,000 of car, so it’s something of the bargain now. With the vendor telling us the car is problem free and ready to go, we can’t think of many better ways to put this level of luxury, performance and technology on your driveway.

The safest way to buy a classic car online

Car & Classic's secure payment system protects buyers and sellers. At the end of the auction, the winning bidder transfers payment into a third-party escrow account. Once the transfer of the vehicle is complete, both parties confirm they are happy with the sale and the money is released to the seller.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.
Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

C&C prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.
Auctions are extended by 3-minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £10,000 £100.00
£10,000 to £50,000 £250.00
£50,000 to £100,000 £500.00
£100,000+ £1000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.
You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you’re able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
