The Appeal
When Jaguar revived the ‘S-Type’ moniker in 1999, it was clear that in standard form, the new car had many qualities in common with its ‘60s namesake. However, Jaguar was altogether more adventurous with high-performance variants of the new car, releasing a supercharged V8 ‘S-Type R’ in 2002 to rival Mercedes-Benz’s E55 AMG and BMW’s M5. Boasting 400 horsepower and reaching 60 mph in a staggeringly quick 5.3 seconds, the unassuming ‘R’ was a bonafide Q-car.
This 2006 example has covered a mere 38,854 miles and is offered with an advisory-free MOT valid until 1st January 2025. The vendor acquired it in April 2019 to remember their father who always owned Jaguars and they’ve covered a mere 600 miles in the five years it’s been in their garage. In keeping with the Q car theme, the vendor has installed a valve in the exhaust which bypasses the backbox at a press of a button (remote) - meaning the guttural V8 growl and supercharger whine can be let loose on command, rather than permanently giving away this car’s performance.

The Condition
- Understated styling, with little to give away the performance hiding under the bonnet
- Discreet ‘R’ badges, red brake callipers and blacked-out mesh grilles

- We noticed some small finish blemishes upon close inspection, but nothing notable
- There are no obvious signs of accident damage and the doors/panels appear to align well
- The alloy wheels look to be in very good condition for their age
- Besides some light cracking to the driver’s seat bolsters, the leather upholstery looks barely worn
- The carpeting and headlining present very well
- We’re not informed of any issues with the switchgear, instruments or infotainment systems
