The Background

“Quattroporte” translates as “Four Doors” in Italian. Launched in 1963, the first generation, Series one Quattroporte was a V8 powered, obviously four-door large saloon, capable of a top speed of 124 mph. 1966 saw the Series two released, with a completely new interior and a 4.7 litre engine, which made it the fastest four-door saloon in the world. Second, third and fourth generations were produced, never moving away from the original large luxury saloon.

The model we have here is the fifth generation of the Quattroporte, which was launched in 2003. The Maserati was developed alongside new owners Ferrari, which shows, as they used the 4.2 litre Ferrari V8, producing 394bhp which propels the weighty saloon from 0-60mph in 5.2 seconds, and gives a top speed of 171 mph.

The design was carried out by legendary designers Pininfarina, who created the smooth sleek lines which sit so well on the large sports saloon.

The History

The seller of this wonderful 2006 Maserati Quattroporte purchased the vehicle in April 2021. It was purchased to be used as a regular short commute vehicle. Falling under the catchment of the ULEZ charge made it the perfect choice, and offered luxury, performance and the perfect V8 soundtrack for the short commute into the city.

The previous keeper has had the wheels refurbished and the brake calipers painted in bright red, with new Maserati decals applied. There was also a new clutch and timing belt fitted in November 2019, and the last full service was carried out approximately 2,000 miles ago. In June 2021, the seller had the rear handbrake shoes replaced and also the front brake pads.

As the world has changed during this pandemic, the seller has found himself continually working from home, and the Quattroporte simply isn’t getting the use it deserves, which is the reason he has decided to part with the Italian luxury four-door saloon.

The Paperwork

The V5 is present and shows 7 previous keepers. There are 2 keys present but only one key fob.

A healthy number of service stamps shows the Maserati has been well cared for, with the last service in March 2021 at 77,439 miles. The owner’s handbooks are present, along with a number of invoices showing work carried out over the past few years, such as the timing belt, spark plugs, brakes and clutch.

There is a valid MOT on the Quattroporte which runs until the 20th July 2022.

The Interior

Black leather upholstery greets you as you open the door of the luxury saloon. The seats are in excellent condition with just some very minimal age related creasing, as you would expect. A nice touch is the Maserati logo on each headrest. The electrics are all working as they should, enabling you to get that perfect driving position. For parking, it has electric folding wing mirrors.

The rear seat passengers don’t get left out with Maserati, as these are also electric, offering a relaxed, spacious and comfortable ride. Should the sun be bothering you, there is an electric roller blind which extends over the rear window at the touch of a button. The carpets have been kept clean with the use of additional mats, with the current ones being relatively new, and up above, the headlining is also in good order.
The dashboard is finished in black leather to the top, there is a small scuff just above the instrument binnacle. The instruments light up as they should, with no warning lights displayed with the engine running, and the odometer is showing a reading of 79,031 miles. Another feature which is not to be missed even with the shift to digital is a 6 CD auto changer.

The Qurattropotre is well equipped in the in-car entertainment department, with sat nav and Bose speakers all working as they should, as is all the switchgear. The spacious boot is in great condition, with the original tool kit in place.

The Exterior

With a Pininfarina designed body, the Maserati Quattroporte is without doubt a stunning looking luxury saloon. The huge open mouth grille is set off with a red Maserati badge sitting pride of place. There are some small chips to the front bumper, in keeping with the age and mileage of the car, and the bonnet looks to align as it should with the wings, with an equal panel gap.
Around to the sides and it's long! Sitting at over 5 meters long, the Quattroporte is in excellent order, with no signs of any annoying dings or dents, and the door gaps are equally matching to each side. Something else to note is that this model also has electrically folding mirrors.

There are some stone chips to the leading edge of the rear arches which is a common trait for this particular model. The windows are in nice condition with no noticeable scratches to be seen and the brightwork to the handles and window trim shows no signs of tarnishing.
At the rear the lights are in good order with no splits to the lenses, the boot looks to align as expected. There is a small scuff to the centre of the bumper, and just to the left a small chip of paint has come off around the parking sensor. Four stainless steel tailpipes exit the rear and sound amazing when the V8 fires up.
The wheels have been refurbished by the previous keeper and are in very nice condition. There is a small kerb injury on the passenger rear and a smaller one on the passenger front, but these could be easily touched in. The tyres were replaced in 2020 with Goodyear Eagle F1 on each corner, and since then it has only covered a couple of thousand miles.

The Mechanics

Fitted with Ferrari's F136 S/U 4.2 litre V8, the Quattroporte fires up straight away as you would expect, with no untoward noises coming from the glorious V8. It sounds fantastic and is reported by the seller to be running just as it should.

The gear change can be achieved by leaving it in automatic, or by using the F1 style paddle shift levers mounted behind the steering wheel. At the flick of the levers, the car will effortlessly change quickly up or down the 6-speed gearbox.

As mentioned earlier, the Maserati has had the timing belt replaced, a new clutch in 2019, the spark plugs replaced in 2020 and a full service in 2021. The car comes to a stop as it should, with newly painted red calipers standing out through the Anthracite wheels, which have seen pads in the front and the rear handbrake shoes replaced.

The Appeal

A Ferrari engined luxury saloon, what more could you ask for?
At around £80,000 when new, the vehicle has been highly maintained, with service stamps and invoices to verify this. It has also had a lot of the expensive jobs taken care of, such as the clutch, timing belt and spark plugs, which is a huge bonus for the new custodian of this Italian luxury sports saloon.
A huge amount of car for the money and it literally is, at over 5 meters long. This 2006 Maserati Quattroporte has everything you need, luxury, performance, comfort and space. It's happy to cruise along the motorway or equally as happy around the city, and let’s not forget it is also ULEZ compliant.
What are you waiting for? It's time to indulge yourself in a lot of Italian luxury.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
