The Appeal
The CLK range offered the same level of comfort as its SL and CL relatives, and shared the same chassis and good looks, but in a slightly scaled down and more sporting package. The CLK convertible is definitely the model to choose if you want two doors and four seats in a convertible with no real loss of practicality. It is a genuine four-seat proposition, with access to the rear seats enhanced not only by tipping the front seats forward but by the lack of a 'B'-pillar. It's a similar story with the roof stowed; still space for four and with room for luggage too!
With so few miles covered and in such fine condition we think owning and driving this Mercedes will be a real pleasure.

The Interior

It’s hard to beat a Mercedes interior for quality and finish, and this is a good example. With only light wear in a couple of places it is a particularly smart combination of light grey leather and dark grey carpet. The seats are in overall good condition with the only visible wear being to the side bolster on the back of driver’s seat which would be easily fixed by a specialist. Apart from this all four seats are very smart, and the rears are full adult size making this a proper four seat convertible.
The dash area is mostly dark grey with attractive textured aluminium inserts on the centre console, doors and instrument panel. There is a small amount of age damage around the edges of the aluminium trim surrounding the gear selector but it’s hardly noticeable. Up on the top of the dash the panel between to centre air vents is suffering slightly from “sticky button syndrome” but again this could easily be replaced. The carpets are clean with no areas of wear, even in the driver’s foot well area. The only sign of use is wear to the pedal rubbers! The door sills, with smart Mercedes-Benz etched inserts, are easily scratched but here they are undamaged, smart and presentable.
Looking closely at the rear carpets and seats we think these have barely been used; there is no wear or damage to be found, even to the seat backs.
The boot area is trimmed with matching dark grey carpet which is clean and shows no water damage or staining and there are no luggage scratches to the sill area.
The Exterior

Looking at the exterior of the Mercedes there is little that gives away the 56,000 miles covered. The attractive silver paint has a good shine in all areas, and apart from a few stone chips around th front of the car there are no major paint defects. The flanks of the car are free from trolley/door damage, and the panel gaps are consistent and even. There are a couple of small scuff marks on the corners of the rear bumpers but these are minor. The chrome inserts that edge the bumpers and the side strips are all shiny are clean, as are all the badges and lettering. The headlights, front fogs, windscreen and rear lamps are all undamaged.
Wheels are the original Mercedes 9 double spoke (Doppelspoke) 17 inch style, with Falken ZIEX tyres on the fronts, and Roadstone N8000 tyres on the rears. All the tyres are lightly worn with plenty of life remaining. The wheels are in good condition and only on close inspection reveal that all four have minor bubbling and small areas of curb rash.
We played with the black folding soft top during our visit and can report that it functions beautifully, stowing away neatly and fitting snugly when up. The Haartz A5 material folding roof was found to be in good condition all over and free of attention drawing imperfections or signs of previous repair.
Generally we would sum up the exterior as very smart with no marks or areas of wear that detract from the overall appearance.

By Mercedes standards this example is barely run-in! Looking through the history file reveals that plenty of servicing and regular oil changes have taken place so it would be unlikely that any major mechanical issues would mar the enjoyment in the near future. Looking under the bonnet reveals a tidy and original V6 engine that hasn’t been steam cleaned. There is a little dirt here and there, a few leaves etc, but no sign of fluids getting where they shouldn’t be! The underside is exceptionally clean, with the only oxidisation on the exhaust. There are no signs of damage, or broken parts that we could see.
Summary
If you would like a convertible that is capable of seating four adults in comfort then the CLK model is probably the best in its class. Small enough to be nimble and rewarding to drive, with plenty of power from the V6, and spacious enough for four in comfort with the roof up or down.
This example has covered very few miles and remains in lovely condition.
