Mercedes has a long history of producing high quality, capable and dynamic cars, especially convertibles. Badged the CLK280, the engine was a 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine, which makes short work of hauling the CLK along at speed. Viable rear seats and a usable boot space also make it a very practical and stylish convertible to live with.
The CLK is a quality car, at its best when driven with a little restraint, having been designed and built with an emphasis on comfort rather than sporting performance.2006 Mercedes 280 CLK-1.jpg973.11 KB
THE HISTORY
Originally owned by a lady owner for many years, she then sold it to her friend, another lady owner, who kept it till around 2016, after which it was declared SORN, and was kept in long term storage for a couple of years until being re-commissioned last year and reunited with the roads.
The service history is rather vague, as although when the current owner bought the car there was some paper history with it, but this can currently not be found.
The CLK had a full service just this last May, has new tyres all round, and looks a nice, clean, and well cared for car.
It features heated electric memory seats, cruise control, electric roof and all four windows, parking sensors front and rear, SAT NAV and comes in beautiful black.
The V5 shows 2 previous keepers and there is an MOT that runs to 21st of April 2022. There are 2 sets of keys, a spare wheel and jack.2006 Mercedes 280 CLK-165.jpg1.02 MB
THE INTERIOR
The cream leather interior is always a fantastic contrast to the exterior black and is in truly immaculate condition, with the whole interior hiding any signs of being used very well indeed, apart from the key touch areas, such as the seatbelts, which may appear a little grubbier than elsewhere, but these are easily addressed.
Everything is very typical Mercedes and very civilised with it, making it a great environment for driver and passengers to be. The back seats appear hardly used suggesting the majority of this car's mileage was done with one or two up front. 2006 Mercedes 280 CLK-89.jpg855.73 KB
THE EXTERIOR
The black paintwork is deep and has a good shine to it but does have some scratches and scuffs here and there that are all shown in the gallery below.
The front also suffers from some ‘gravel rash’ from driving on recently gravelled roads, which is very noticeable at the front of the car. The windscreen suffered with the gravel too, and there are 3 chips in the glass.
Lifting the bonnet reveals nothing of any concern and the boot is clean and dry housing the spare wheel and jack.
The wheels are not perfect but generally in good condition and the electric hood mechanism works smoothly and efficiently.
There is a small part on the rear of the hood that is coming apart slightly but otherwise it is in good condition and there is no evidence of any water ingress.2006 Mercedes 280 CLK-3.jpg1.1 MB
THE MECHANICS
The car has just recently been fully serviced, changing oil, plugs, filters and fluids.
The engine is advised to be nice and tight with good power and acceleration through the automatic gearbox, with no mechanical or other issues to report.2006 Mercedes 280 CLK-146.jpg1.1 MB
THE APPEAL
With electrically adjustable seats, getting comfortable is easy in the CLK. They offer plenty of support and are comfortable even over a long distance. Better still is the ride quality, which is composed and refined.
This then is a very practical and usable modern-day classic Mercedes convertible that should be a pleasure to own and enjoy for many years to come.
