RESERVE LOWERED - 2006 Porsche Cayenne Turbo S

HIGHLIGHTS

• Class-leading luxury SUV
• Immaculate condition inside and out
• Supercar performance from twin-turbo V8
• Many expensive extras

THE BACKGROUND

When the Cayenne was launched in 2003, it was met with scepticism – and even outright disdain – from Porsche purists. What was the iconic sports-car manufacturer doing, building an SUV? Everyone else – reviewers included – loved it.

Its combination of Porsche performance and SUV practicality made it an instant hit, and the model continues to this day. The Cayenne, and later Macan, comfortably outsold other models in the Porsche line-up.  Other manufacturers sat up and took notice and soon the luxury SUV was a staple in the ranges of Porsche’s main rivals, but the Cayenne remains the car that set the standard.

The Cayenne Turbo S was introduced in 2006, to rival the Mercedes-Benz ML 63 AMG. Powered by a twin-turbocharged 4.5-litre V8, the car was capable of 0-60mph in 5.0 seconds and had a top speed of 171mph – that’s supercar performance in a comfortable, and practical, SUV with excellent off-road capability. No wonder the car has been such a long-lived success.

THE HISTORY

First registered in June 2006, LG 06 DYJ was specced with a lot of high-end extras that took the car from the basic list price of £69,000 to an eye-watering £93,000 once the VAT had been added. Those extras included a panoramic sunroof (£1855) the Sport Design pack (£2316) and walnut door trim (£586), the full extras spec sheet is in the photos below.

Additional nice touches include the ski-bag, inside the rear arm-rest, that allows skis to be stowed without risk of damage or staining to the leather seats. The first owner sold the car in 2008, and the second owner kept it until 2016, during which time it was regularly serviced at Porsche West London in Chiswick and on one occasion it was serviced by a Porsche dealer in Belgium (the owners second home). The car's MOT history is consistent and well documented and in line with the service records, they appear in KM on 3 MOT's. The vendor has recently acquired the car from the third owner.

THE PAPERWORK

The car comes with a complete file of paperwork, including all the receipts since first purchase. All the owners’ manuals and booklets are present, in the original leather folder. The original service book shows all the appropriate stamps. This is clearly a car that has been lovingly (and expensively) cared for since new.

The MoT is valid until 26 August 2022.

THE EXTERIOR

The exterior of the car is simply outstanding, with no marks or blemishes visible. Resplendent in the late-autumn sunshine, it looks amazing from every angle. The Basalt Black paintwork has been recently polished and looks incredibly good for a car that is 15 years old.

All four wheels are immaculate, as are the tyres, which have plenty of tread left in them. The badges and brightwork are spotless, and the headlights and rear lights are unmarked.

THE INTERIOR

If the exterior of the car is impressive, the interior is truly astonishing. It all looks ‘as new’ and one is left wondering how the car can have done 65,000 miles when the interior is this good. The vendor has recently had the car professionally detailed, but even so there are virtually no signs of wear and everything is spotlessly clean. It’s a real time-warp.

The leather seats are immaculate, the carpets and mats look brand-new, and the dashboard and centre-console are equally impressive. All four interior door panels are unmarked. Behind the rear armrest is the aperture into the rear load space, with that clever ski-bag accessory -seemingly never used for its intended purpose. In the boot, the carpets are spotless and there is a car-cover (in its case) and a trickle-charger. Under the carpets, there are all the original tools which would appear never to have been used.

THE MECHANICS

As one would expect of a car in this condition, the car starts on first flick of the key and the engine note is perfect. The Tiptronic auto transmission clicks readily into gear and the car pulls away quickly, smoothly and quietly. The vendor assures us that it drives and handles beautifully, with no issues. The power steering is quick and accurate.

Under the bonnet, everything is as clean and tidy as one would expect from a car that has been so carefully looked after. Underneath the car, there is no sign of rust or leaks and everything looks to be in good order. The car comes with three sets of keys, a custom car cover and trickle charger that can be seen in the boot.

THE APPEAL

The Cayenne was the original luxury SUV, and remains the model by which all others are judged. With searing performance and off-road ability plus a comfortable and spacious interior, this is a car that combines the best of all worlds, and that has comfortably bested its rivals in the sector since it was launched.

This outstanding example was packed with expensive extras when new and has clearly been cherished throughout its life. There can be few 2006 cars, of any model, in condition this remarkable and with the reassuringly thick and comprehensive pile of paperwork. If you are looking for a Porsche Cayenne, you won’t find a better one.

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
