The Appeal

Colour makes all the difference! When ordering this V8 Vantage Roadster for the Press Fleet we can see why the Aston Martin Press Office chose this striking colour combination.  The attractive Elusive Blue Metallic and dark Black roof combination works beautifully and makes the Aston stand out in a crowd.  Visually more exciting than the usual silver, grey or black we think this really is a cut above the norm.  Purchased by the seller in 2020 he has used it sparingly for the past two years covering about 1800 miles on local trips and longer blasts down to Devon.

He loves the Aston and is only selling it to make garage space for a classic project.  There is a good folder of history and invoices with the Aston, and a Service Book with 14 stamps, the last being just 55 miles ago. As a bonus the valuable private registration V8 VEO will be sold with the car.

The Interior

  • Smart Dark Blue Leather interior
  • Impressive history file
  • Good condition with light wear
The first thing you notice when opening the door is the attractive dark blue and black colour combination of the interior.  There is just enough blue without becoming over the top and dominating inside of the car, yet the colour prevents the interior having a dark, cave like feel.

The black leather steering wheel is clean and tidy with no major wear.  The instrumentation is equally clean and all appears to function correctly with no warning lights.  The blue leather of the door cards and dash area is smart, but being a dark colour there are places here and there where small scuffs show, but these are minor. The grey carpets are in good condition are exceptionally clean with just a small amount of wear in the driver’s footwell as you might expect.

The blue leather is edged with white stitching that highlights the contours of the seats.  The seat leather shows light wear and creasing, particularly on the driver’s seat, but there are no nasty scratches or nicks that would be obvious to the eye.

On the whole the interior is in great condition with nothing that requires attention.  Smart, clean and comfortable and attractive, just as it should be.

The Exterior

  • Striking Elusive Blue paint
  • Original dark black hood fits and works well
  • Excellent panel fit and consistent gaps
The colour of the Aston really makes it stand out from the crowd.  Even on the dull day we visited the blue was bright and attractive and we think it emphasises the clean lines of the Aston beautifully.  The panel fit is excellent; any inconsistent gaps would be very obvious in this colour.

Upon examining the paintwork closely we were pleasantly surprised how few marks we could find.  There are a few minor stone chips around the nose, and the odd tiny mark elsewhere, but none that are visible from further than a couple of feet. The roof has some fold marks to the fabric, and would probably look better after a shampoo, but apart from one small nick in the rubber seal in the C pillar area we found no damage.  The fit is good and the roof raises and stows correctly.

The black 19inch wheels have machined faces and Aston Martin centre caps. They all show some age related damage, and a couple have some curb rash.  The owner admits that he has struggled to judge the position of the wheels when parking and subsequently resisted the urge to get them refurbished as he knew he’d probably scrape them again!  None of the marks are too deep and all could be machined out. Tyres are all lightly worn with plenty of life remaining. They are Nankang AS1s up front and Yokohama Advan Sport on the rear.

All in all the Aston looks the business and is a real head turner. As the private plate is included in the sale you could be forgiven for thinking this Aston was just a couple of years old.

The Mechanics

  • Good regular service history with invoices and stamps
  • 6 speed manual gearbox with clutch replaced
  • Last serviced just 55 miles ago by Aston Specialist
Raise the bonnet on the Aston and you’ll find a tidy and dry engine bay.  There is nothing to hide here; past owner's have resisted the temptation to steam clean the engine bay so it's not pristine but it's clean and has an appearance commiserate with it's age.  The 4.3 litre puts out a very healthy 385hp, and the owner assures us that none of the ponies have escaped over the years!

The Aston starts easily with a quick V8 bark from the exhaust before settling to a deep rumble. He says it’s not just the looks and driving pleasure he’ll miss, but the addictive soundtrack!  He has covered about 1800 trouble free miles during his ownership.

Noted an invoice for a replacement clutch and flywheel assembly in 2015 on file.  It was treated to a “20,000 mile” type service by Phoenix Aston Martin specialists of Basingstoke in June this year at a cost of £1,444 which included the replacement of ALL fluids and a multipoint check of the car. Since then he has driven a mere 55 miles so we can safely assume it is mechanically sound and ready for its new owner.

Summary

There isn’t much not to like about this Aston.  It has drop dead gorgeous looks, a tidy and attractive interior, a soft top and a 6 speed manual gearbox.  Add a large dollop of V8 grunt to the mix and we don’t think you could do much better.  It’s quite a rare car as only about 10% of V8 Vantages were ordered as Roadsters, and most would be the usual euro-grey/black spec.  Here is one that stands out from the crowd for many reasons, -all of them good!

About Max Bids

The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.

Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.

Anti-sniping

Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.

Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.

Auto-bidding increments

  • If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
  • If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
    • Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
    • We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Bid Amount Increment
£0 to £9,999 £100.00
£10,000 to £49,999 £250.00
£50,000 to £99,999 £500.00
£100,000 + £1,000.00

Automatically outbid immediately

When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.

You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.

Matching max bids

When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.

Pre-authorisation

We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.

What are pre-bids?

A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.

Problem with your bid

Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
