The Appeal
It’s the little things that matter. The standard Clio RS 197 is good, but add the Cup chassis, 7mm lower ride height, stiffer springs and dampers and bigger Brembo brakes and you get perhaps one of the greatest hot hatches of the modern era - the R27 F1.
Built by RenaultSport to commemorate its F1 success and with just 500 allocated to the UK, the R27 comes freighted with blue chip credentials. But those changes deliver a track-ready, road-legal weapon that trounces its rivals. This Liquid Yellow 2007 car is number 420 of those 500 and its four registered keepers have kept it nicely standard throughout its 19 years.
It has been maintained well too, the service book and large history file showing a run of regular attention with frequent cambelt changes. The last one was in 2022, since when the car has been little used. The last service was in 2023 and the MOT runs to May 2027 with no advisories.
Rare, brilliant and, in this case, properly looked after, the R27 deserves a place on any driving enthusiast’s driveway.
