・Nice and original, needs nothing. ・Just serviced and 12 months MOT
Background
The second generation of Mercedes' successful CLK was introduced in 2003. It was based on smaller C class underpinnings, but with updated styling with more than a passing resemblance to the larger E class.
Available as a Coupe or Convertible it was produced until 2010 in 3 trim levels; Avantgarde, Elegance and Sport.
History
This smart 200CLK was first registered in October 2008, so towards the end of the A209 model production. Boasting the Elegance trim level that included green tinted glass, nice 9 spoke alloy wheels and wood trim on the dash, doors and centre console.
With only three owners it has covered a mere 75,000 miles, which in Mercedes terms is only just run in! Purchased by the owner in 2019 it has only covered 5,000 miles in the past 4 years, having been parked in the garage until recently.
The owner pointed out that there are a few 200 CLKs that, as he puts it “have not been messed around or fiddled with” and upon inspection we agree –it’s just as it left the factory and very nearly in the same condition too!
The Paperwork
The CLK comes with a Service book that has 10 stamps from new, the last being in 2017 at just over 70,000 miles.
The owner has added another stamp before the sale and has put it through an interim service, equivalent to a Mercedes-Benz “A” service at a trusted local garage. A new MoT has also been carried out on the same visit.
There are 6 further MoTs on file, along with the Owners pack and sets of keys.
The Interior
Mercedes interiors are known for being hard wearing and this one is no exception. The cloth and fabric seats have no tears or rips, and show no wear in the usual places like the driver’s side bolster. The passenger and rear seats look virtually unused.
The wood on the dash and centre console is shiny and unmarked, as are the wood accents on the doors and beside the rear seats. We noticed that overall the interior is very tidy for its age, helped by the quality of the hard wearing Mercedes materials.
We noticed minor “bubbles” on the screen of the audio control screen, probably caused by heat on the glass, but the rest of the buttons and switchgear were clean and operated as one would expect.
Being a two door the front seatbelts are mounted some distance behind the front seats to help with access for rear passengers. Upon closing the doors, front seat occupants are handed their seatbelts by an electric arm extending from behind your shoulder, a system that works well.
The Exterior
The exterior of the CLK belies its age as well. The silver paint is in generally excellent condition and shines beautifully. There is one minor scuff mark on the rear edge of the driver’s side rear wheel arch. Apart from that the only blemishes we could find were tiny stone chips on the front.
The wheels present well, but upon close inspection have the odd bubble and nick in the paint, but only the passenger side front shows any evidence of curbing, and that is minor.
The 3 layer black fabric roof is in good clean condition both inside and out, the heated glass rear window is clear. The roof deploys effortlessly – at the press of the button on the centre console. The roof folds away again easily and stows away beneath its flush cover. Raising and lowering takes about 20 seconds, but apparently it can be operated when the car is moving up to 5 mph.
The Mechanics
Starting and driving beautifully on the day of our visit the CLK has obviously been well cared for by its owners. Under the bonnet the engine bay would benefit from a good clean, but at least we can see that there are no drips and leaks here.
The owner recently fitted a new battery as the previous one wasn’t holding a charge, probably due to lack of use. By the end of the sale the CLK will have another stamp in the Service book, and a new Mot, so with such a low mileage there is nothing to suggest that any mechanical attention is required.
The Appeal
There are few car manufacturers that deliver open top driving at this level, and Mercedes lead the field with a long history of stylish convertibles. The combination of looks and practicality offered here is surely hard to beat.
Four comfortable seats, a convertible top that stows away neatly, stylish coupe looks with pillarless side windows, all topped with a three pointed star! Superb value.

About Max Bids
The max bid process allows you to bid without any hassle.
Enter your maximum bid and we will then bid on your behalf to ensure you're the highest bidder - just enough to keep you in the lead and only up until your maximum.
Anti-sniping
Car & Classic prevent auction snipers from bidding in the last seconds to win an auction.
Auctions are extended by 3 minutes if anyone bids within the last 2 minutes to allow other bidders to react and counter-bid.
Auto-bidding increments
If your maximum bid is equal to or below the reserve price, your maximum bid will be applied in full if you are the highest bidder.
If you are the highest bidder and place a maximum bid above the reserve, we will automatically put in the reserve as your first bid.
Once the reserve has been met, Car & Classic will make sure you are the highest bidder using only the bidding increments stated below.
We will keep you in the lead up until your maximum bid OR the increment closest to your maximum bid, providing your maximum bid is enough to cover the increment value.

Automatically outbid immediately
When you place a max bid and are outbid immediately that means that another bidder has placed a max bid limit which is higher than yours.
You can bid again and we will use our automatic bid system to try and get you as the highest bidder.
Matching max bids
When there are two max bids of the same value, the one placed first remains the lead bidder.
Pre-authorisation
We may hold a pre-authorisation charge on your card until the end of the auction when the hold will be cancelled. If you win, we'll take a security deposit which counts towards the payment for the vehicle and isn't any extra cost to you.
What are pre-bids?
A pre-bid means you're able to place a bid before the official start of the auction.
You will be notified whether or not you are the highest bidder when the auction starts.
Problem with your bid
Bids are contractually binding. To help protect you, we have some rules in place if we think it's been mistyped. Please check and amend what you have entered.
