The Appeal
Hailing from the ‘hooligan bike’ era when Streetfighters were reliable and brutally quick but offered just enough refinement to be too soft, this Speed Triple would be tempting enough without the rare Anniversary Edition spec. Then there’s that superlative 1,050cc triple, whose low-down torque, visceral sound and sheer power make it one of the greatest engines of the modern era.
The Anniversary was built to celebrate 15 years of the Speed Triple and named after John Bloor, the bricklayer made good who saved the firm in 1983. Just 150 were allocated to the UK market, all finished in menacing Phantom Black with hand-finished coachlines and colour-matched flyscreen and belly pan and a comfortable gel seat.
The vendor is the bike’s fifth keeper and acquired it in 2013. He’s used it sparingly, the bike having clocked up a mere 9,500 miles in its 17 years. As you would expect of that limited use and careful dry storage, it is in good condition with few marks to the paint or trim. The history file shows regular servicing to 9,083 miles in 2019, since when the bike has covered less than 500 miles. We’re told that recent work included a new battery and fuel pump. It comes with a lengthy MOT containing a single advisory.
The vendor says:
“It's a beautiful and responsive bike. Quick (very) and comfortable. I think it's how it sounds through the Arrow cans that I like the most, along with its stunning looks.”
